Opening Day 11/18/2023
It’s opening day, the day we look forward to every year here at LOHC.
It’s opening day, the dogs stand ready at the gate ready to load, as they’ve longed for this day, like we have, all year long.
It’s opening day, trucks pull in to a gravel lot of an old hunting shack that’s been around as long as I can remember.
It’s opening day, orange hats circle up in the parking lot, ready to make the first drive of the season.
It’s opening day, everyone heads to their stands as dog drivers plan on where they’ll drop the tailgates.
It’s opening day, the tailgates drop and the dogs hit a track and off to the races they go, singing that sweet “swamp music.”
It’s opening day, the first shots ring out and everyone’s phones are blowing up on the “group chat” seeing what the good word is.
It’s opening day, the first drive is over, the lucky hunters bring their harvest back to the club skinning shed and everyone regroups to do it all over again.
It’s opening day, as the sun sets, everyone gathers back at the club for a cold beer and some exaggerated stories.
It’s opening day, just as so many in the past, it brings joy, camaraderie, and an escape from reality to all of us in this club.
It’s opening day, remembering the “old timers” legacy that I grew up hunting with as a kid.
It’s opening day, coming to a close, the remainder of the season still lying ahead. So many memories…. It’s not just something I do, it is part of who I am and who I always will be.
It is up to us to carry on the legacy that is Landowners Hunt Club.
Opening Day 11/18/2023
In loving memory of Bobby Ward, Meade Williamson, Levy Rowe, Ray Brugos, Herbert Winn, Woodrow Martin, Dick Foster, and so many others who made this club what it is today and whose kids and grandkids carry it on today.
