Hello, friends 👋
We wanted to give a little season update! Last winter we decided to leave our dahlias in the ground rather than digging them up. This gave them an early start, two months earlier than the season before in fact! However, we’re realizing that means our dahlia season is ending about two months earlier than last year. They also didn’t love the week straight of temps over 100. That was our first sign we weren’t going to have blooms as late into the season as usual.
As sad as we are for our favorite flowers to be coming to an end for the season, it actually works well for our next season of life.
I (Mary) am getting ready to start my fourth and final semester of nursing school and things are going to get really busy around here. Since it’s just my mother in law, Bernice, and I doing the flowers we’ve decided to end our season a bit early this year. We will not be accepting any more orders for the season or offering any more arrangements at porch pickups. Occasionally we may have single stems available on the porch for purchase through the fall.
We’re not sure what next season will look like. I started this little flower farm by planting our first seeds in February of 2020 while I waited to get into nursing school. The end of that year I was unexpectedly accepted to a program. The flowers have been a great compliment to nursing school and our little backyard farm. Our dream would be for people to be able to come cut flowers when they’d like, but there’s so much legality to that!
During the off season we will continue to post but you can expect to see more of the behind the scenes of what we do to grow these beautiful blooms. We will be downsizing the flower field a bit and so we may even have dahlia tubers to share!
Thank you everyone for your love and support. We have found so much joy in growing these beautiful blooms and even more joy being able to share them with all of you! You’ve blessed our family these last three years, we appreciate you. 👩🏼🌾 💐
