Did you know a standard garden hose output is roughly 12 gallons per minute? Your lawn needs 620 gallons per 1,000 sq feet to get 1 inch of water on that spot WEEKLY!!! That means it could take up to an hour in just one spot with a standard sprinkler to reach that goal and that is not accounting for run off and evaporation. Important reminder to water water water in this heat and move your water hose around to get good coverage! Evening watering is not recommended to prevent fungus but can be done in a pinch if you absolutely have no other option.

👀 Look at this! Likely an application of round up killed the henbit w**d and a horsew**d grew right up in the center. Nature is wild. Horsew**d (marestail) has and can become resistant to applications of round up (glyphosate). So if you ever notice it not dying after you spray it in landscape beds, that’s likely the cause!

Little barley or foxtail?

“Many people mistake little barley (Hordeum pusillum) for a little foxtail because the foxtail and little barley seedheads are similar. However, little barley is a winter annual that comes up in late September – October and spends the winter as a small plant. It thrives in the cooler spring temperatures, forms seed heads and dies out usually by July. Foxtail, on the other hand, is a summer annual that does well in hot weather. Also, foxtail will not produce seedheads until mid- to late-summer.” Pre emergents in the fall help prevent little Barley!
