There’s something rather wonderful about watching two people celebrate the beginning of their life together surrounded by the people they love.

Beautiful places.
Beautiful celebrations.
Good food, happy tears, laughter, dancing and all the little moments that make a wedding day theirs.

After all these years, that’s still the heart of what we do here at The English Country Barn.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way. 🤍

Your photographer may be the most important person on your wedding timeline.

It sounds dramatic, but hear me out.

Your photographer is working to a timeline for a reason. They know how long the photographs you want will take, when the light is best, when the sun is going down, and how much time they need to capture everything properly.

So when your photographer says, “We need to leave at 5:15,” or “We need 20 minutes for this,” listen to them.

And if there are photographs you really want at the end of your day — especially those gorgeous golden-hour or sunset photographs — guard that time.

Because here’s what happens so often.

Hair and makeup runs a little late. The ceremony takes longer than expected. The room isn’t quite ready. The flowers take longer to finish. Everyone is running 20 minutes behind.

And at the beginning of the day, 20 minutes doesn’t feel like a big deal.

But weddings have a funny way of making up those 20 minutes somewhere.

And eventually, something has to give.

Very often, it’s the photography.

The detail photographs get shortened. The first look with your bridesmaids becomes rushed. Family photographs get squeezed. And suddenly that beautiful sunset you had planned for is happening while you’re still trying to get through everything else.

You can’t put the sunset back.

You can’t recreate the moment when everyone was together.

And you certainly don’t want to look at your gallery afterwards and realise that the photographs you thought were part of the plan simply couldn’t happen because there wasn’t enough time.

Your wedding day will disappear in a whirl of flowers, champagne, hugs, laughter and approximately 4,000 decisions.

Your photographs are what will bring it all back to you.

So when your photographer gives you a timeline, guard it.

They’re not trying to rush your day.

They’re trying to make sure you get to keep it.

A wedding day is so much more than the moment you say “I do.”

It's the anticipation. The nerves. The people you love. The laughter. The dancing. The quiet moments in between.

And then, of course, the two of you looking at each other and wondering how on earth you've ended up married. 🤍

Ana and Daniel's gallery has a little bit of everything.

And that's exactly how it should be. It was a peefect celebration 🤍

Your wedding day is a bit of a whirlwind, and taking ten minutes to disappear together while the sun is going down is time you'll never regret making.

Congratulations Ana and Daniel 🤍

Wednesday Wisdom

You don't actually have to make every decision six months in advance.

Some things are worth sorting early—your venue, photographer, caterer, the things that book up quickly.

But other things?

They can wait.

You don't need to know exactly what your centrepieces will look like before you've even chosen your dress. You don't need to have every little detail pinned down a year before your wedding. And you certainly don't need to spend every weekend making decisions about napkin colours. 😂

Give yourself permission to enjoy the planning rather than turning it into another full-time job.

Our best advice? Deal with the big things first. Let the little things evolve.

And remember, at the end of the day, you're planning one very special day—not sitting an exam.❤️

No matter how carefully everybody has packed for a wedding weekend, there is always one thing missing on the morning of the wedding.

A cufflink. A shirt. A belt.

And, rather surprisingly often, a sock. 😂

Cue the search through bags, bedrooms and cars while everyone assures everyone else that there is plenty of time.

Eventually, whatever has disappeared is found, everybody gets dressed and looks rather splendid, and nobody would ever know that twenty minutes earlier there had been a minor crisis over the whereabouts of one very important item.

Just another perfectly normal wedding morning at The English Country Barn.

Before there was an Enchanted Wood, there was simply a tangled corner of the property.

Trees, weeds, undergrowth and years of nature doing exactly as it pleased.

But I could see something else.

I had a vision of creating a ceremony space amongst the trees — somewhere that felt completely separate from everything else at English Country Barn. Somewhere a little unexpected.

Turning that vision into reality was no small undertaking. The area had to be cleared, paths created and every detail considered carefully, while still preserving the feeling that you had wandered into a woodland that had always been there.

Today, The Enchanted Wood is one of our seven ceremony spaces. Complete with stunning soaring chapel.

But its beginning was much less glamorous.

Sometimes you don't have to find the perfect space.

Sometimes you just have to be able to see what it could become.

WEDNESDAY WISDOM 🤍

There is one piece of advice I give every couple who gets married here.

At some point during your wedding day, slip away together.

I often tell couples that if they're not using the mezzanine for guests, go upstairs, get some dessert and just sit together for a few minutes.

Because everybody wants a piece of you on your wedding day.

Your parents.
Your family.
Your friends.
Your photographer.
Your guests.

And that's wonderful. That's exactly what the day is about.

But amongst all of that, it's very easy to suddenly realise that you've barely had a moment with the person you actually came here to marry.

So take fifteen minutes.

Go for a walk. Sit somewhere together. Have some dessert.

Just the two of you, remembering why you're here and taking a moment to really enjoy it.

Because surely, that's the whole point. 🤍

One wedding.
A thousand little moments.

Before the dress goes on.

Before he sees her.

The people who have been there from the beginning.

The nervousness.
The ridiculousness.
The anticipation.

Then suddenly… it’s time.

And somehow, somewhere between the ceremony and the last dance, the nerves disappear and the whole day becomes a blur of people you love, photographs you didn’t know were being taken, enormous amounts of laughter and one very good reason to stay on the dance floor.

Every entrance is special.

But this one… 🤍

A beautiful bride, a flowing gown, a magnificent horse, and the Somerset Garden waiting at the end of the aisle.

Some wedding moments simply take your breath away.

This was one of them. 🐎🤍
