A Twirling Coach’s View
As a twirling coach, I strive to make sure that every child has the tools they need to succeed. Having twirled for the majority of my life, I know firsthand what it feels like to fail when trying to improve your skill. However, the only true failure is when you quit trying, and this is something that my mother taught me when I first began twirling. She would always tell me to get up and try that toss again or any skill I was working on. This motivation and support made me the coach I am today. Practice and never giving up is the best wisdom I can pass to my students. The more you try and practice, the more you eventually put distance between yourself and failure. One thing I have learned over the years is that you can’t stand still and expect your talent to increase. You have to put time and effort into anything that you are good at, such as baton twirling. If you sit by and never practice, you will never catch that 2-turn or juggle 3 batons. First and foremost, I put growing my student’s abilities as my number one prerogative when teaching baton or color-guard. I try to give them ample opportunities to increase their skill level, as well as go compete against others. I hope by reading this “about the coach” section that you give your child the opportunity to come and twirl with me, so they can experience the sport that I have grown to love over the years.
