A Very Fine French 19th Century Louis XV Style Giltwood Carved Aubusson Silk Five-Piece Salon Suite, attributed to Maison Forest, Paris. The finely carved suite comprises a bergère-style canapé (settee) with padded sides and four open-arm fauteuils, each richly decorated with carved floral motifs, scrolls, and acanthus leaves, and raised on elegant cabriole legs. An old cut-out stenciled label beneath one armchair reads: “Fabricant des Meubles Forest – Paris, 31 Rue Cambacérès.” Circa: 1890–1900.
Note: All gilding mostly original. The Aubusson silk tapestry in worn/used condition. The frames are of superb quality and would benefit from re-upholstery.
Maison Forest was one of the important late 19th- and early 20th-century Parisian luxury furniture firms specializing in highly refined historicist furniture, especially Louis XVI, Empire, and Belle Époque revival styles. The firm is often simply signed “FOREST” or “MAISON FOREST PARIS” on furniture. Maison Forest was founded in Paris in 1883 at 14 rue Pierre-Picard, Paris, later operated from 31 rue Cambacérès, Paris. Exhibited internationally, including at the 1893 Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. Maison Forest belongs to the great tradition of Parisian luxury ébénisterie that revived Louis XVI, Louis XV, Empire, and Napoléon III
