A lot of people probably look at junk removal and think it’s pretty simple work. Show up, load things up, and haul them away.
And sure, on the surface, that’s part of it.
But in my experience, it’s rarely just about the stuff.
A lot of times, by the time someone reaches out to me, they’re already overwhelmed. The clutter is usually connected to something bigger. Life has gotten busy. A move is happening. A loved one passed away. A tenant left things behind. A renovation got out of hand. Work, family, stress, health, grief, exhaustion, or just the pace of life caught up with them. A lot of people aren’t calling because they’re lazy or careless. They’re calling because they’ve gotten to a point where they don’t know what to do next, or they simply don’t have the time, bandwidth, energy, or support to handle it on their own.
That’s why I take this work seriously.
When I show up, I know I’m often stepping into a situation that carries more weight than what’s visible in the driveway, garage, storage unit, or spare room. I’m meeting a real person on the other end of it, and I try to show up with an energy that gives energy. I come in grateful, ready to work, and ready to connect human to human. Because sometimes what people need first is not just muscle or a trailer. Sometimes they need someone calm, capable, respectful, and positive to help them get moving.
One of the most rewarding parts of this job is watching that shift happen in real time.
At the beginning, I can often feel the stress, frustration, or heaviness someone is carrying. Then once we get started, something changes. They see that there’s a plan. They see that we’re efficient. They see that we’re strategic in how we approach the work. And little by little, you can almost watch the overwhelm leave their body and their face. What felt impossible starts to feel manageable. What felt heavy starts to feel lighter.
That matters to me.
Yes, we remove unwanted items. Yes, we clear out space. But a lot of times, it feels like we’re doing more than that. We’re helping people create relief. We’re helping restore order. We’re helping people breathe again. And I never take lightly the trust people place in me when they invite me into those moments.
Creating space on the outside can create space on the inside too.
That’s one of the biggest reasons I do this work the way I do. Not just to haul things away, but to leave people feeling lighter, supported, and a little more at peace than they did before I arrived.
