My last commission- delivered.

Good ‘ole black walnut, custom sized for a unique space. Simple design, durable materials, with a strong focus on functionality. Because who wants a desk with sh*tty drawers and no structural stability (I’m looking at you IKEA).

Big thank you to my client for sticking with me for nearly sixteen months as I slowly tackled this large project amidst a lot of life change. I returned to college full-time (summer semester too), moved to NYC with my gf, packed up my childhood home, emptied out the workshop, and moved all of my tools!

Unfortunately I scheduled delivery in the evening and ran out of daylight to take pictures outside. Those of you who follow my story spam know just how good this desk came out. Lots of little details that will live on probably unnoticed 😂. Maybe subconsciously they’ll be appreciated.

Who remembers this coffee table from January 2023? Well, I finally sold it 😅😭 Headed to an apartment in Queens tomorrow. Definitely a person favorite- it served me well at MANY art shows.

This tabletop has some of the best crotch figure I’ve seen in my years woodworking. I milled the walnut back in the summer of 2021 (🤯) from a tree that was uprooted during a storm in Pompton Plains, NJ. Wow, that’s a long time ago! A lot has happened since.

Tried my hand at some “patch” inlays to hide some unsightly knots/defects in an otherwise very clean desk top. This overlapped pair came out pretty great!

I never posted this crazy thing! I turned an Elm burl slab from in Oregon into a jumbo wall art piece for our apartment. The bed cubby that I’ve been working on will be installed right below it, tomorrow!

This bed cubby has had its fair share of challenges, but it’s coming together nicely! Really excited to install it in our apartment and enjoy its functionality and aesthetic.

Made a really stupid mistake when using the Domino to cut the mortises and went right through the 3/4in walnut 😭. I’ve done so many waterfall miters- this was a first. Woodworking is just fixing/hiding your mistakes right??

Layout and proportion are important and under-spoken elements of river tables. Everyone has their own personal preferences, but I think there are definitely some “right” and “wrong” rules of thumb to be followed.

How wide is the river with respect to the width of the table? How consistent is the width of the river? If it varies, by how much? How straight is the river? Does the resin color complement the wood?

For this slab, I used Photoshop to experiment and preview potential layouts before I made any cuts. It would’ve sucked if I cut that slab in half only to THEN realize the river layout was no good.

📍TLDR: There’s a lot more thought and effort that goes into a piece like this that meets the eye. It’s not aimlessly putting wood in a mold and settling for the outcome.
