Universal Design Arkansas Universal Design Arkansas is a coalition of organizations and individuals promoting the benefits of universal design principles.

Universal Design means a home, a product, a town can be comfortably engaged by every person of every ability and every age. Most of us, whatever our range of ability, can be more ably accommodated with better design. Homes can have wider halls and doorways so wheelchair users can get around. Products can have larger handles or lids to make them easier to grasp or open. Towns can adjust street sign

als and install shorter crosswalks to make it easier for slower walkers to cross the street. The opportunities are endless and the successes are growing. The Universal Design Mobile Display and this companion web site are a project of many state and non-profit agencies to spread the word about the benefits of Universal Design in home settings - in kitchens, bathrooms, common areas, and entryways. The benefits help all of us live and flourish in our homes no matter our ability. And they help us build or remodel our homes so they will be ready if our ability changes suddenly. While we focus on the home, also consider this web site a gateway to Universal Design ideas across the spectrum, from the smallest kitchen gadget to the largest town plan. Take a tour of the Universal Design Mobile Display and check out its exhibition schedule. Find expert resources for your kitchen remodeling project. Explore ways that Universal Design principles can make every aspect of our lives just that much more easy.
