🎉The signs are up! The signs are up!!🎉 This just made the whole thing feel real on a new level.

After we posted about the story and thought behind our updated logo, many of you asked where the name j.plum home came from.

j. simply refers to us, Josh and Jenny, the two knuckleheads who had no business getting into retail OR vintage wares, and yet did so anyway.

The meaning behind plum is two-fold: it is a nod back to my days in the classroom, where my go-to teacher pen was a purple flair pen. It remains my favorite pen still. It also references a British idiom, “a plum find” - which means something “desirable or valuable; a treasured discovery.”

Finally, we went through many words to complete our name. We considered furnishings, goods, finds, treasures, crafts…but all felt either too specific or too bland. We went with “home” because it gave us the freedom to grow our collection in various directions, while focusing on what we wanted to channel most in our store - a cozy feeling, a welcoming environment, a place that is an extension of our own home where we open the doors to all.

{a funny addition…when I moved to maine, I started my own mindfulness education business and named it a play-on-words, where I constantly needed to correct people as to the pronunciation. So I told Josh I wanted “one syllable words that everyone knows” for this name. Still people mistake our name and often pronounce it “plume.” I promise you, it’s as simple as it sounds, just like the color, the fruit, the clue character. However you want to remember it 😂😉}

Three new beeswax candle scents will be available at the new shop when we open later this month!! We have them in hand, and after some very important testing, I have a favorite - and I’m surprised which it is 😉 Which are you most excited about? Any guesses which my favorite is??

✨MIMOSA: Golden mimosa blossoms unfold with a soft, honeyed sweetness and delicate powdery warmth. Light, airy, and gently luminous, this scent captures the feeling of sunlight filtering through spring flowers

✨BLOOD LIME AND GREEN TEA: A vibrant blend of citrus and tea. Notes of bergamot bring a bright, zesty opening, softened by Bulgarian rose and the quiet calm of green tea. A touch of musk lingers beneath it all - clean, balanced, and beautifully refreshing.

✨ROCKROSE DE LA MER: Beautiful rockrose unfolds along the shoreline, its warm resin carried on ozonated air rising from the sea. Earthy, ambered, and lightly marine, Rockrose de la Mer captures the feeling of wind against sunlit cliffs.

✨We are so excited to share our new, updated logo with you!✨

This is the first change to our logo since the original one I designed way back at 1am in Sept of 2021 when Josh and I first came up with the name j.plum home. While we loved the overall design, it lacked some personal connection that feels so appropriate for our family shop.

The dandelion in our new logo represents so much. Dandelions are full of wonder and whimsy, and have an air of nostalgia as we all have childhood memories of making wishes. The beauty of dandelions are in the eyes of the beholder - some see weeds, others see color and fun. Dandelions represent little joys that can be found all over, and therefore available for everyone.

All of this - the cozy nostalgia, the joy in simple pleasures, the childhood wonder and colorful whimsy - sums up what we hope you feel when you enter and explore our curated modern vintage collection.

Oh, and the three wishes being blown off our dandelion in the logo? That represents us - Jenny, Josh, and Alice - as this is first and foremost a family shop that is an extension of our home. And we can’t wait to share it with you!

Little by little, one piece at a time…

Creating the shop you come to know happens in so many stages. It all starts with a totally blank space, a blank canvas of sorts. The next step is to bring in the big furniture pieces and start to carve out the sections of the space, and the little nooks we come to know and love.

After the physical footprint is done, I can start adding in some additional - but necessary - features. Additional lighting, wall shelving, fixed display pieces … these all started going in today and made a whole new part of the store come to life!

The next step is to bring in all of the items we’ve been curating and selecting so carefully. We get to fill these shelves and these nooks with things that we hope you love as much as we do, some familiar favorites and some brand new finds!

But first, a family trip to nyc this weekend to visit some of my favorite people. Because as much as I’m getting excited about this School St shop, a few days away will be good for our heads and def for our hearts.

✨a little story about kindness✨

To say we’ve been juggling a lot recently is a sweeping understatement. Josh’s attention was very much on the old Lisbon Falls space last week as he organized the sidewalk sale, and I was running all over sourcing furniture and starting to move what I could to design the new space.

Somewhere in the week, I noticed how wild and wooly the little grassy space in front of the new store was getting. While I have bigger plans for an outdoor face lift, the inside of the space has been getting all of my attention. What little attention we have for outside has been on getting on signage approved (STILL a work in progress). But yikes, it looked awful and I was decided to talk to Josh about getting a push mower after the garage sale. In the meantime, I took my hedge trimmers and - looking a fool in a sundress - manually tried to make the lawn look better last week. It, uh, did not work. It was like when a toddler takes scissors to their own hair, and I KNOW you know what I mean.

While I know it will come together, I felt super self conscious about how the outside looked to passersby. Especially heading into a holiday weekend, it felt embarrassing and not at all the care, love, and pride we want to portray for this space.

On Saturday, I drove up to the store and someone had cut our lawn. Y’all, if this exhausted mama and business owner didn’t burst into tears right there. Something that no one else may have even noticed, but SOMEONE did - and probably saw me making a fool of myself 🤪 - and decided to help. It meant so much to me, Im actually having trouble explaining it.

So yeah, no other message than just people are good, and may we all watch out for one another. I truly believe that acts of kindness will be how we survive this crazy world right now, and even little ones (maybe especially little ones?) can make such a difference. I am so grateful for whoever gave me that reminder this weekend 💜
