This project has come to an end. A Lane cedar chest that dates back to the 50’s. I tried to keep it completely original but ended up having to build a top. After stripping the veneer off the top was plywood. Except the top, the rest is original.

This is a Lane cedar chest that dates back to the 1950’s. A friend gave it to me to either use the cedar for other projects or take on the challenge of restoring it. I wanted the challenge. Though the project is still in progress I wanted to share a few pics. The chest was totally wrapped in veneer which had to be stripped completely off. Huge job!! The top was deceiving. Once I stripped the veneer off I found it was 3/4 plywood. As bad as I wanted to keep it original I had to build a cedar top. I mimicked the original as best I could. Final pictures will come later after I apply the Tung oil which will really make it come alive.
