Started sanding one piece… while also working on two others at the same time 🤣 One day I’ll learn to finish one project before touching another. Today is clearly not that day 😅💚

This vintage tiger oak buffet was fully refinished from top to bottom, carefully sanded down to raw wood to reveal the most beautiful solid tiger oak grain throughout. Not an inch of veneer.

The original orange finish is gone, allowing the natural movement and character of the oak to truly shine. Finished in three coats of Dixie Belle Voodoo Water-Based Gel Stain in “Charred Hickory,” this piece now carries a rich, warm neutral tone that feels timeless, elegant, and full of depth. It was sealed with three protective top coats for a smooth and durable finish.

The original brass k***s and stunning ornate handles were polished by hand and completely brought back to life 🤩 Gold damask drawer liners add the perfect luxurious touch, while every drawer was conditioned and rejuvenated to preserve the beauty of this old, tired oak.

And voilà. A completely transformed statement piece, ready to continue its next chapter for many more years to come ✨

Last photo is the before 😬💚

At what point do you admit the dust extractor isn’t “getting heavier”… you just forgot the filter bag existed? 😭💀

Meanwhile mine was packed SOLID after almost a year 🤢🤣

I finally opened it and honestly… impressive. Horrifying, but impressive 😂

Found a replacement set that fits perfectly without spending a fortune 🙌✨

Now she’s light again and my back would like to say thank you 😅

This little chest became more than a furniture project for me. 💚

While working on this piece for Mental Health Awareness Month and the challenge, I realized how much we neglect our mental health while trying to survive adulthood, pressure, loss, responsibilities, and life itself.

Since moving across the ocean over 20 years ago, life has been a constant cycle of rebuilding…a new country, loss, heartbreak, surgeries, raising my son alone, grief, survival mode, and learning how to keep going even when life keeps testing you.

One of my happiest moments was finally buying a home so my parents could move here and we could be together again. Four years later, we lost my dad to COVID. That loss changed me forever.

Somewhere along the way, I buried myself in work and responsibilities just to survive the void. Then furniture restoration unexpectedly became therapy for me. It forced me to slow down, create, breathe, and notice beauty again.

Pieces like this remind me that beauty still exists in the world and that we are all artists in our own way, constantly rebuilding ourselves through life.

My son is now 18. My mom is here beside me, my greatest support and best friend. Life is good. Not perfect, but good.

And now I realize something important:
mental health cannot always be put last.

Sometimes even the strongest people need a break. Sometimes you need to stop surviving and remember who you are outside of survival mode.

Anyway… according to the saying “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” I should probably be an absolute beast by now. 🤣

Still here. Still creating. Still pushing forward. 💚.

POV: me getting irrationally excited over a portable workbench like this is a completely normal adult purchase 🤣

I saw this table on Jennifer’s page last year and immediately thought: “OMG I NEED THIS.”
Then I saw the price and told myself I absolutely did NOT need a portable butcher block workbench 😅

So I left it sitting in my cart for a while… and then one day it completely disappeared from Amazon. Gone. Out of stock everywhere. Internal tears were shed over a WORKBENCH 🤣 Like you guys… a portable workbench. What is my life 😂

Months later it randomly reappeared like it had been there the whole time and I purchased it IMMEDIATELY 👌👏

Not sponsored at all. Just genuinely this excited over workshop organization and furniture refinishing tools now on apparently 💚

Now excuse me while I act like this table is about to transform my entire basement workshop into a professional studio 😌

One thing furniture restoration keeps teaching me… experience matters, but so does trial and error. A lot of it. 😅

Every wood species behaves differently. Every veneer reacts differently. And when you strip a piece down, color matching becomes a whole different skill on its own. Sometimes what looks perfect in your head looks completely different once it hits the wood.

That’s honestly what pushed me to finally dive deeper into products. This is NOT sponsored at all — just me investing time into learning products that so many professional restorers have trusted for years.

After a lot of research, I ordered what seemed to be the most versatile and commonly used toner colors for restoration work and wood blending. I tried to choose shades that would work across different wood tones, veneers, repairs, and restorations. The Blonde toner was actually purchased for a very specific upcoming restoration project I’m excited about.

Still learning. Still experimenting. Still figuring out what works, what doesn’t, and how different woods react.

If you use Mohawk toners regularly, tell me… what colors am I missing? 👇
