If you were in the Harleysville area, please make sure your pets safety are in the house before 9:30 tonight fireworks start at 9:30.

Fireworks Reminder!

The Harleysville Jaycees are excited to have our annual fireworks display to celebrate Memorial Day weekend, America 250, and the Harleysville Country Fair Days.

While this is an exciting occasion for our community, we recognize that fireworks can be difficult for pets and veterans. Please keep the following tips in mind so everyone can feel safe and comfortable:

For Pet Owners:

• Create a Safe Space: Set up a cozy area where your pet can feel secure. Close windows and curtains to help muffle the noise.
• Keep Pets Indoors: Bring your pets inside well before the fireworks start to prevent them from bolting out of fear.
• Update Identification: Confirm that your pets have current ID tags and microchips in case they become lost.
• Use White Noise: Play calming music or turn on the TV to help mask the sounds outside.
• Stay Calm: Pets pick up on your emotions — staying relaxed and offering gentle reassurance can go a long way.

For Veterans:

• Plan Ahead: If loud noises are a trigger for you, arrange to be somewhere safe and comfortable during the fireworks display.
• Noise-Canceling Headphones: Earplugs or noise-canceling headphones can significantly reduce the impact of sudden loud sounds.
• Lean on Your Support System: Let trusted friends or family know your concerns ahead of time so they can be there for you if needed.
• Breathing Exercises: Deep breathing techniques can help ease anxiety in the moment.
• Find a Quiet Space: Step away from the main event to a calmer area whenever you need a break.
