What's this picture have to do with Amish furniture? Nothing, yet this picture speaks volumes of what's truly important in life.

My kids have grown up playing sports. The lessons I learned from athletics shaped me into the person I am today. I've always told my kids that the goal of every Coach, in my simple mind, should be to be respected and impactful. How respected/impactful? Respected and impactful enough that your athletes stay in touch with you, even after 40+ years.

I've been blessed with a couple of amazing Coaches who taught me more about life than wrestling and one made the time to stop by and see us today while passing through. So thankful for Coach, his family and the lessons they taught me during my formative years.

Legacy Locker was built on a simple idea: the toughness you build in this life doesn't retire when the uniform comes off. It gets passed down.

I was reminded of that yesterday when I got a picture of my daughter grinding through a smoke session run by a Marine — women's college soccer is no joke. When I talked to her after, she said it was the toughest 1:45 of her life. Knowing she dug in — didn't quit, didn't fold, just kept working — took me straight back to wrestling and the Academy. That specific kind of tired. The kind where quitting would be easier and you do the next rep anyway.

I didn't get that from a motivational poster. I got it on a wrestling mat and in formation, and I've spent years hoping I could hand it to my kids the same way it was handed to me. Watching her out there, I know it stuck.
