Instead of showing you something that I made, this post will highlight something made for me. My most loyal (and most awesome!) customer presented me with this quilt today. Words cannot begin to describe how humbled I am to receive something so special. The quality cannot be overstated and the details are truly what sets this quilt apart from any other I’ve seen.

You see, in addition to building furniture commissions for her, I also do handyman work. The fabric she selected has a tools and handyman theme, but if you look closely, the stitching is also in the shape of hand tools. Drills, saws, wrenches, hammers…. It’s truly amazing!

Thank you, Martha, for such a wonderful, thoughtful gift. You made my birthday that much better!

I finished this little side table for my most loyal customer about a week and a half ago. It’s made with cedar that was harvested from her property and air dried for the last 25 years or so. I used black resin to stabilize it, added some casters and finished it with satin polyurethane. Even though it is a simple little project it will get a lot of use and I think that is the most gratifying thing about projects like this.

My first fall project came early! We remodeled one our bedrooms for our oldest son. Presenting…..built-ins! This was a very large project for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The final dimensions are 8’ tall by 10’ wide. They were built in three separate units in order to get them into the space, and the face frame was fully assembled in the room to overlay the whole unit. It has one built-in shelf in the middle and the rest of the shelves are adjustable. The other cabinet fits in a little alcove and has fixed shelves. Here are some before and after photos.

Three coats of satin lacquer, and it’s done! Made of walnut and maple with a maple edge inlay and a brass inlay on top. The figure of the wood is beautiful as it comes to life in the sun. This bespoke board is unique in that it is a regulation “travel” board that is held together by magnets in the open or closed configuration. This is the first board like this that I’ve made and I had a great time building it. Now, it’s ready to get plenty of use! Another special board for a special person.
