Heartbreak Woodworking

Heartbreak Woodworking Fine furniture. Hand-turned bowls. Carved signs. Custom-designed pieces. In recent years, Rick added carving and bowl-making to his woodworking repertoire.

It all started when Rick took a high school woodworking class and made a mahogany table that is still in use in his house today. After adding to his shop tool-by-tool over the years, he started to build fine furniture pieces that have become cherished heirlooms for friends and family. Turning bowls of all shapes and sizes, Rick prefers to work with locally sourced wood whenever possible, crafting

bowls for friends who have lost treasured trees in a storm or creating birthday and wedding gifts that family can pass down through the generations. Do you have a tree that needs to be cut down and would like a bowl turned from it as a memento? Would you like a custom designed bowl as a gift? Contact Rick McMorrow at [email protected]

While turning this platter, the shavings started to collect around the center and do an interesting dance, so I just had to grab the phone.

After several months of planning and four weekends of installing duct work, the new dust collection system is fully operational. Now, back to woodworking!

The last time I had a real dust collector available to me was when I was back in my high school woodshop. I have been making do with just a shop-vac for the past 25 years, but thanks to my supportive wife Kathleen, and by saving my wood pennies, I finally was able to purchase a powerful system, manufactured in nearby Syracuse NY by Oneida Systems. Here is a video of it in action while I finish coring out a small blank from a larger bowl. Next comes ductwork to connect all my machines!
