MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The Hubbardston Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee shall serve as facilitators and supporters for the placement of a memorial dedicated to those who served during the Vietnam War era. The group welcomes volunteers, as well as input from the community. They are responsible for the design of the memorial, fundraising, and erection of the monument on the Hubbardston, Massachusetts, Town Common. The

Hubbardston Vietnam Veterans memorial project began in 2020 when Town Administrator Ryan McLane reached out for volunteers to form a citizen’s committee to create, design, fund and erect a fitting monument for the many residents of Hubbardston, past and present, who answered the call to serve our great country during the Vietnam War era. "I truly believe that everything we get as soldiers and veterans today," asserts Mr. McLane, "is because of the Vietnam Generation and their fight for benefits and honor." His idea was to have a comprehensive, energetic committee of seven Hubbardston residents who could carry out this task to completion. Ryan is now defending our country on deployment with the Army. The committee was formed and is energetically working to raise the funds and locate a suitable vendor to bring this project to completion. This monument will finally give our Veterans the proper "Welcome Home" that they may not have received when they originally returned after serving. The residents and citizens of Hubbardston have always answered the call. We have sent our men and women off to every war or conflict this country has ever been involved in. The Town has acknowledged these sacrifices by erecting fitting monuments to perpetuate their memory. The time is long overdue to recognize the patriotism of the Hubbardston men and women who served our country during the extremely difficult and complex period known as the Vietnam era. We exceeded our fundraising goal, raising over $45,000!!! The balance remaining after costs associated with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial have been paid will be used to refurbish and clean all of the war memorials in Hubbardston Center and to fund our town's Memorial Day parade. INVITATION TO THE 2024 HUBBARDSTON MEMORIAL DAY EVENT

On behalf of the Hubbardston Memorial Day Committee, we would like to cordially invite all area veterans to participate in our town's Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, 2024. This annual event honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Veterans are welcome to either walk or ride in the Memorial Day parade. Complimentary veterans t-shirts will be available for pick-up at the Senior Center prior to the event.

Date: Monday, May 27, 2024
Time: Parade begins at 11:00 AM at Curtis Recreation Field
Public Parking: Available at Go Green Pallet Company

Following the parade, all veterans and community members are invited to attend a complimentary Ice Cream Social hosted by the Golden Age Club at the Senior Center.

We are pleased to announce that we have completed our mission to our Hubbardston Veterans by making a few changes and adding 19 names to our monument on the Hubbardston Common. Here is a glimpse of this work in progress. We'd like to thank Leominster Monuments for helping us complete this task in the best possible fashion. We had to forget all about an alphabetical sequence in order to fit the additional names. Please forgive our SNAFU as the "grunts" would say.

COME ONE...COME ALL TO THE HUBBARDSTON MEMORIAL DAY EVENT!
We wish to invite everyone to join us on Monday May 29th, 2023.
We shall be honoring all of our fallen comrades and the focus this year will be for all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice since 9/11.
Our extensive parade will kick off from the Curtis Recreational Field at 11:05 AM and proceed down Main St to the common. The services will begin at noon and be over by 1 PM. Free hot dogs, water and chips will be provided by the Hubbardston Lions Club and ice cream will be available at the Senior Center. Chairs will be available for all veterans and their families on the common.
We hope to see you there!

Looking for a trumpet player/bugler to sound echo to Taps during Hubbardston's Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 29. The ceremony begins at noon and Taps will be sounded at approximately 1:00 pm. You will be able to hear the first sounding of Taps and will begin playing shortly afterwards.

Anyone can serve! You don't have to be active military or a veteran and we welcome buglers of all ages.

Hello Veterans and their families.
We shall be adding over a dozen names of Vietnam era Veterans from Hubbardston to our Monument. These were veterans or their families that contacted us after the monument was unveiled on Memorial Day 2022.. This was in spite of an all out effort to identify all eligible Hubbardston Vietnam Veterans. A eligible Vietnam era Veteran is someone who served, actively, during the period beginning November 1st, 1955 to April 30, 1975.

We plan on having these names engraved on our monument in time for our Memorial Day event which is Monday May 29,2023.

We are making one more last appeal to the public to contact Bill Shea 978-928-4440 if you think you or a relative might be eligible to have their name included. In order to have time to have the name included, you must contact Bill Shea before April 30, 2023. We have published this notification before as we want to be all inclusive in recognizing Hubbardston residents, past and present, who actively served our country during the Vietnam era.
