Our Story
I have built everything along the way through my career: from houses, to stores, to remodeling a courthouse, pattern making for nuclear aircraft carriers and a submarine, parts for the famous Wright Flyer replica, historic window restoration, cannons, chicken coops, and yes of course my favorite, Furniture.
I started working with wood as a teenager in wood shop. After graduating high school, I worked as a merchant seaman. While on a tugboat in the Gulf of Mexico one of my fellow seaman showed me how to make countertops for the galley with some basic tools. I thought that was cool. When I moved back home to Williamsburg a friend of mine asked if I would help him make cabinets for his kitchen. He offered me a place to stay and in exchange, I made his cabinets. While buying all the materials, the owner of the lumber store, offered me a job. I worked with him for a few years and learned all he had to offer. I went on to owning my own construction company and built houses as a sub contractor. In time I landed a job building Polo and Tommy Hilfiger stores nationwide. All along my passion was to begin building furniture full time and so I bought tools, furniture books, and trade magazines and practiced the craft. In 1996 I took a class on Windsor bow back chair making. That changed everything, and propelled the opening of my furniture business, now with over 20 year’s experience.
I find my best work comes from the heart of my client. When a furniture piece is commissioned, I pull from them the function, then add the design and work with them to select material, dimensions and design, creating a one of a kind piece.
