“Can you make shelves to match the tables?”
That’s what one of my awesome clients asked after picking up a few pieces last week.

Challenge accepted.

I’d never built shelves quite like this before, but I had a blast figuring it out. The goal? Match the coastal vibe of their stunning marshside home on Hilton Head—and I think we nailed it.

What surprised me most? The light. When the sun hit just right, the blue tint cast on the walls made it look like the shelves were underwater. Like your living room decided to turn into a swimming pool. Not planned… but absolutely perfect.

Always grateful for clients who trust me to try something new!

🌳 The Journey of a Palmetto Creations Cutting Board 🌳

Ever wondered what goes into making one of our beautiful cutting boards? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at each step:

-Wood Selection: It all starts with selecting the finest, high-quality wood. Each piece is carefully chosen for its unique grain patterns and durability.

-Glue-Up: Next, we glue the individual pieces together, clamping them down to ensure a tight, even bond. This step lays the foundation for a sturdy, long-lasting board.

-Flattening: Once glued, it’s time to flatten the board, creating a smooth, even surface. This ensures the board is easy to work with and pleasing to the eye.

-Turning to Edge Grain: We then turn the board to expose the edge grain, which not only enhances durability but also creates a beautiful, distinctive look.

-Second Glue-Up: For added strength and aesthetic, we do another glue-up, ensuring that the board is as resilient as it is beautiful.

-Finish Sanding: After the second glue-up, we sand the board to a perfect, smooth finish, making it ready for the kitchen.

-Oiling & Waxing: Finally, we coat each board with a blend of food-grade mineral oil and beeswax. This not only brings out the wood’s natural beauty but also provides essential protection, keeping it looking great meal after meal.

The Grand Reveal & New Beginnings 🌟🔪
After hours of dedication, it was time for the final touch: oiling the board with my proprietary blend of food-safe mineral oil and beeswax. This step brought out the deep, rich colors and intricate grain patterns, highlighting the uniqueness of each piece. The result? A stunning, one-of-a-kind cutting board that’s already been sold for $800! 🏆✨ It’s been an amazing experience crafting this beauty and seeing it find a home so quickly. Onward to the next creation! 🙌🔨

🪵After the glue dried and set, it was time for what felt like endless sanding, sanding, and more sanding to ensure a buttery-smooth surface. This step alone was worth the effort, revealing the true beauty of the wood and setting the stage for a flawless finish. 🌟 🪵

Part 2 of my journey: Once the perfect hardwood was chosen, it was time to bring it to life. Each piece went through milling, sizing, and planning to ensure absolute flatness and uniformity. Then came the meticulous process of cutting the lumber into perfectly sized strips that would form the foundation of this edge grain cutting board. This stage required patience, attention to detail, and a whole lot of sawdust! 💪🪚
