Mission Statement:
The Council is devoted to the following goals:
1. Assist with the social, emotional, economical, physical, and informational needs of the elderly (those 55 or older); and,
2. Address
needs of low-income individuals within our community through providing clothing, books, toys, and home furnishings within accessible means. Board President
Bill Eggers, a resident of Greencastle for 36 years, serves as President of the Board of Directors and spends many hours everyday helping at the Senior Center. Bill was a cross-country truck driver for many years and later hauled logs and pulled Wal Mart trucks and proudly states he . . . “never had any serious accidents.”
What is available to help the community? Because the community donates so much to the Center we are able to help those watching their budgets by providing the lowest priced clothing and household goods in the area. We work with many agencies to provide information and assistance to others. Why do Seniors participate at the Center? Volunteering to help others makes life interesting and rewarding. Opportunities at the Center for volunteering are diverse from answering the telephone at the reception area, assisting with fundraising, doing repairs, cleaning, helping to bring in donations, cooking in the kitchen for special meals, or working upstairs sorting and displaying items. What are some special activities at the Center? Throughout the year, day trips are scheduled to the Indians’ ballgames, wineries, the zoo, theaters, and other places of interest. Progressive dinners are planned with other groups with imaginative themes. Picture one held recently with one of our guests dressed in a grass skirt and coconuts. There is always good food and lots of laughter. Additionally, breakfasts on Thursday mornings and home cooked meals are available on Fridays. Health screenings are available at no charge the third Thursday of each month before breakfast at 8:00 AM and modified exercise classes are held on Tuesday and Thursdays at 9:00 AM. Have a question? The Center has lots of information available to Seniors and their families as they face life-changing situations.
