Don has received excellent treatment from his Oncologist during his bladder cancer journey and thankfully he reached his 5 year anniversary to become a cancer survivor!!!

That being said we are feeling unsettled that his Oncologist Dr. Garg is no longer allowed to treat Don at AAMC should his cancer return. I don’t know what the answer is but we both know that until the hospital works with the amazing oncologists we sadly will not host a golf tournament for the people that are no longer allowed in the hospital that helped save his life. Until then unfortunately Driving Away Cancer Golf is taking a break.

Cancer patients are caught in the middle of a fight between Anne Arundel Medical Center and nine oncologists. Announcing our Honorary Chair for Driving Away Cancer, Sonia Dollinger. Please save the date, Monday September 23rd at Prospect Bay Country Club, details coming soon! Here is Sonia’s story:

Dear friends -

I have completed my clinical trial in Ohio for chronic lymphocytic leukemia and remain in REMISSION! While my time in treatment was not easy, I live everyday with gratitude and appreciation for the many blessings that have come together to make remission possible. The saying “It takes a village” has never been more true! From the research that led to the creation of new drugs, to the doctors who put them into use, and the many willing patients who went before me, some losing their lives...I am grateful.

I am grateful for my village of friends and family that have been with me through treatment by bringing meals, driving me to Ohio, and just lifting my spirits with breaks of normalcy and the occasional glass of wine. I’m thankful for the people that have come into my life - other patients, nurses, strangers who meet you at what could be your lowest point but turn the journey into an exploration of strength, empathy, and the knowledge that you are never alone. I have been very lucky to say the least.

For many, the cancer journey does not have a happy ending. Many cancers remain incurable and new treatments are needed.
