An original design by Mitch Masko, woodworker
This chair is the result of 30 years of custom furniture making, during which I produced thousands of traditional Adirondack chairs and garden benches. Being a product of West Michigan myself, I felt a desire to create a chair that captured some of the flow of the lakes, rivers, and dunes that grace and inspire us. Ten years ago I tried adding a Lower Peninsula back to an Adirondack chair, with uninspired results. It felt small and out of place. The lines of the chair were too stylistically defined and the back merely felt like an add-on, not part of the chair structure. Hopefully, with this Dunes chair the lines feel as though they both flow from and support the curves of the chair body. After years of experimenting I finally have a look to which I am proud to attach my name. I hope you too will enjoy "sittin' in the Mitten" for years to come.
Over the next months I intend to add other back designs to add variety and interest to this chair.
Happy sitting!
