Central Coast Wood Butcher

Central Coast Wood Butcher I am a woodworker! I make items that enhance interior spaces. My cutting and charcuterie boards are quite popular.

I also create a variety of turned items on my lathe. I enjoy posting pics/videos of the process I use to make a thing of wooden beauty.

We had a significant amount of rain today, some thunder and the power is out as I write this…so what do you do on a rainy day?🤔 I do things for the shop that I’ve been putting off! I’m almost out of my cutting board butter! Not anymore!😃 The old Mustang doesn’t like the rain and she is too big to work around in my small shop… it does feel good to still accomplish something though!😊

Got a short notice request request from a client to make a blue, epoxy resin, river, charcuterie board (that is a mouth full!😂)Had a little less than a week turnaround time on it. Luckily, the weather was nice and the epoxy cured a little bit quicker than expected! This is a black walnut board, roughly 16”x12”x1” …this particular piece I found in my travels up to the Pacific Northwest on a visit with my mom a few years ago. What I love about this piece is the very light sapwood contrasted by the very dark heartwood. Always love using Alumilite Deep Pour epoxy on my projects, as it is consistently good stuff and easy to work with. The Crafted Elements form made this quick turnaround possible!

Made a new board for my friend . Got to deliver it to him at work! I have to say that I had an absolutely awesome time today…Usually we spend our time together wearing white and blowing whistles!😂 However, today we spent a few hours tasting his wine and touring Brick Barn Wine Estate in Buelton, Ca where he is the Wine Maker. His wine is absolutely amazing, and the facility, tasting room and grounds are definitely worth the visit if you haven’t been there before. I really enjoyed the wine lesson and learning about the process… I’m convinced, he has one of best jobs on the Central Coast! Anyway, Adrian and the staff seemed to really like the new board…l always enjoy the positive reactions from clients when I first reveal a project to them. As a maker, it really is heartfelt when you can tell a client loves what you just made for them! I hope I expressed the same enthusiasm for what you make Adrian, you are truly an artist!

With Father’s Day quickly approaching…as I know some of you fellas are still partaking in a nice fat stogie on the golf course, out on the patio or in the man cave…let me know, I have a few ashtrays ready to go for that fella who has everything!😊 By the way, my ashtrays are good, no matter what you are smoking these days.😂🤣 I recently built these four ashtrays at the request of one of my new clients. She wasn’t exactly sure what she wanted so, I told her I’d make several for her to choose from. The one with the turquoise stone crush is a solid piece of cherry, two are black walnut and purple heart and the square one is Osage orange with a quartz crush. I hope she likes them!😊

Just a little shout out to my favorite graphic designer …She has been instrumental in her guidance and support of my little venture. Pictured are various projects that are part of The Central Coast Wood Butcher branding. We started with a logo and moved on to business cards, a product label and informational product post card…and yes they all match my brand!😊 So, not only am I getting to do what I love in the shop, I get to work closely with my daughter!… Someone I love and respect immeasurably! …Absolutely the best of both worlds!?Love you sweetheart!😊♥️

Spent a bit of time today at the Home Connection, Solvang… adding inventory and adjusting prices. Met some nice folks and enjoyed talking about my work on display. Also met a nice couple from Cayucos who ended up purchasing one of my favorite snow people!⛄️ We had a Cal Poly connection too! Go Mustangs! And thanks so much for your support!😊

Finally my weather app gives my clear skies and some sunshine…I go to work in the shop (which is challenging with my Mustang in the garage/shop)! Assured the rain is gone, I feel safe to pull the old girl out into the driveway. Made some good progress on juice grooves and planing some cutting boards…then I hear that dreaded pitter patter on my garage door! I opened the garage door to buckets of rain and hail coming down on the my old car! Let’s just say that I’m ready for some traditional CA warm dry weather!😫🙄

This is a solid Honduras mahogany changing table…One of my first major furniture projects from the mid nineties. I built it out of necessity when I found out we were going to be parents. A crib, cradle, quilt rack and mirror soon followed! Baby furniture was extremely expensive, we were just starting out and didn’t have much money, so building everything myself killed several birds with one stone…I got some great furniture, bought some new quality tools (that I still use today) and learned a lot about the craft. It has been one of my most challenging projects…featuring an arched raised panel door, cabriolet legs, dovetail drawers and hand made custom molding. Unfortunately, I have no more need for this changing table and I will see if I can recycle it into something else.🤔 We just don’t have room for it anymore. There is a lot of good mahogany in this chest! Expect to see some projects with mahogany accents in the near future!😂🤣
