I love looking back at past projects and seeing how well they hold up years later.

This powder room was photographed in 2013, and I’d happily design a room around many of these same choices today. The botanical wallpaper, beadboard, oversized crown molding and statement lighting give a small space personality without relying on whatever happened to be trending at the time.

Trends can be fun, but I’ve always believed a home should have more staying power than that.

Choose things you genuinely love, respect the character of the home, and give yourself permission to make choices that feel like you.

More than a decade later, I think this little powder room makes a pretty good case for it.

These home offices and workspaces were designed for very different people, as they should be.

Some are colorful and energizing. Some are quieter and more tailored. Some have an entire room dedicated to work, while others are thoughtfully incorporated into a larger living space.

Before I design spaces like this, I want to know how you work – do you spend the entire day here or just a few hours, do you need quiet and focus, do you need an area that inspires creativity, what needs to be stored, displayed or hidden away, what needs to be within reach?

When you spend so much of your life working, the space should function well, look good, and still feel like it belongs in your home.

Another before-and-after look at the recently featured Chevy Chase home update. ✨

For this basement bathroom, we worked with Franklin Olavarrieta to:

✅ Replace the builder-grade vanity with a furniture-style vanity topped in marble

✅ Add a decorative penny tile floor with a custom border for a tailored, finished look

✅ Introduce rich aquamarine walls to bring warmth and personality to the space

✅ Update the mirror, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and hardware for a more timeless feel

✅ Refresh the shower with a frameless glass enclosure while keeping the classic white tile

The furnishings and final styling throughout the home are still to come.
