One of my favorite parts of designing bedrooms for older kids and teens is finding ways to make the space feel personal without turning it into a theme room.

In this bedroom, we incorporated some favorite album artwork into the gallery wall and paired it with a custom bed and nightstands that can work for years to come.

The room feels like it belongs to him, but still connects to the rest of this Modern Napa Farmhouse Chic home in Bethesda, MD.

Excited to share that Samantha Friedman Interior Designs has been included in the new Home&Design Portfolio book featuring the Top 100 Designers across the DMV.

The issue will soon be arriving in mailboxes and will also be available at the DC Design Center and on newsstands throughout the region.

One of my favorite parts of the write-up was seeing the focus on how I approach design — creating homes that feel layered, functional, durable, and actually livable for families. The article also touched on something that has always been important to me: designing around my clients and how they live, not around trends.

Really grateful to be included alongside so many talented designers and thankful to the clients, builders, architects, and vendors I get to collaborate with every day.

The entrance to a basement in Chevy Chase, MD really sets the tone for how the whole space gets used.

Here, we created separate areas for movie nights, watching the game, hanging out with friends, or just having a quieter conversation away from the TV.

And yes… that oversized sectional completely steals the show. 😅

With the classic wall color, tile, and trim in this Chevy Chase powder room, bringing in a patterned Roman shade like this creates a bit of an unexpected moment. It’s even carried into the light shade, which I love.

Sometimes a smaller moment ends up making the biggest difference in a space.

The fabric inlays in these cabinet doors add just enough texture to keep it interesting, while the millwork gives it a really clean, tailored look.

Layer in the hardware, and it pulls everything together in a way that feels international and finished.
