Chief(Ret) Albert Mittelmaier passed away peacefully earlier this week. His service to the Fort Eustis community over his many years was deeply appreciated. Rest easy Brother we'll take it from here.

Today is a day both joyous and bittersweet. Mark St Ours , a 23 year (35 total civil service) veteran of our department put on his uniform for the last time. After a successful career, Mark is retiring and looking forward to the next chapter in his life. Firefighters training for Search & Rescue and Firefighter Survival. This practice keeps sharp the skills and techniques for having to conduct rescue of incapacitated victims/firefighters and find their way out of difficult confined spaces. They must navigate a maze of furniture and debris, find their victim, and find their way to safety all while having zero visibility (covered face shields) simulating smokey conditions.

We held our pre-Labor Day car seat check event at building 704 today; Fort Eustis Fire and Emergency services teamed up with Safekids Worldwide and James City Fire to host an event that was about education and peace of mine for drivers with kids.

As always, if you’d like to have your car seat checked or if you just have questions about keeping your little ones safe on the road, come by building 648 (Fire Station 1) and we’ll have technicians ready to help!
