Community Update – The Finish Line Is Finally In Sight
It has been 209 days since the flood on October 26, 2025.
To be honest, I never imagined we'd still be talking about it seven months later.
Many of you have been asking how things are going, when we'll reopen, and whether we're still operating. Since it's been quite a while since my last update, I wanted to share where things stand.
First and most importantly: Yes, we're still here.
Since the flood, we've continued serving customers out of our temporary location at the Old Bass Shoe Factory on Weld Road in Wilton. It has been far from ideal. We've operated with limited space, limited staff, and without the showroom experience our customers are used to. Yet through it all, many of you continued to support us, place orders, trust us with your business, and recommend us to your friends and family.
For that, I am incredibly grateful.
The rebuilding process has been much larger than most people realize. The flood caused extensive damage throughout the building. Over the past several months there has been asbestos abatement, demolition, excavation, utility work, major repairs, and the reconstruction of large portions of the building itself.
The good news is that we are finally seeing the results.
The front entrance has been completely rebuilt, the exterior has been updated, and the building is beginning to look less like the old grocery store many of us remember and more like the home of Jake's Home Furniture & Appliance.
Inside, the transformation is even more dramatic.
The sales floor that was destroyed by the flood has been rebuilt from the ground up. New black ceiling tiles are ready to be installed, and the final major project—the new sales floor—is scheduled to begin next week. Once the floor is poured, polished, stained, and sealed, the remaining work is largely cosmetic and cleanup.
While construction timelines can always change, we are hopeful that the building will be turned back over to us around July 1st so we can begin the process of moving inventory, setting displays, setting up departments, and preparing for reopening.
I know we've had several projected timelines over the past few months, and I appreciate everyone's patience. The reality is that this building suffered an extraordinary amount of damage, and every phase of restoration uncovered new challenges. None of the delays have been due to a lack of effort. Countless contractors, tradespeople, restoration crews, vendors, and building personnel have worked incredibly hard to get us to this point, and we appreciate every one of them.
What keeps us excited is not just reopening—but reopening better.
When the doors open again, customers will find a completely redesigned showroom, new product lines, new brands we have never carried before, and a much improved shopping experience. In many ways, this will feel like an entirely new store.
The road from October 26th to today has been long, stressful, and at times exhausting. But it has also reminded me how fortunate we are to be part of a community that supports local businesses when they need it most.
Thank you for sticking with us.
Thank you for your patience.
Thank you for every order, every recommendation, every message, and every word of encouragement over the last seven months.
We're not quite there yet, but for the first time since the flood, the finish line is clearly in sight.
We can't wait to welcome everyone back home.
