Here is another unique machine I refurbished for Northwest Hats. This is a 1933 Singer 46-100. It is similar to a fur machine, but is specially fitted to sew the sweatband into lighter weight felt hats using a chain stitch. Unfortunately needles are no longer available, but with the help of a few technicians and Chuck Bonis (of Bonis Fur Machines), we were able to source some needles that could be modified to work.

A very cool machine, back to work, doing it's job after sitting in a warehouse for decades. It is always a treat to get these things going again.

The video is a bit strange because I was hand cranking the machine while holding the phone and trying to guide the hat felt all at the same time.

Here are some before and afters of the 1925 Singer 116-2 that I recently restored. This machine is made to sew the two ends of a hat band together while finishing a hat. It sews forward and backward to a set length between 1 1/2 and 3/8 inches. It had been sitting in a warehouse for the last 60 years. Now it is back in service doing it's job at Northwest Hats.

A recent acquisition and an interesting part of sewing machine antiquity. This Wheeler & Wilson No. 8 was in stiff competition with the Singer models in the 1880's. Wheeler & Wilson lost out and was purchased by Singer in the early 1900's.

I am not sure how far I will go on this restoration, but the last photos are after a second toothbrush scrub down.

Now available.

The Singer 301A, also known as the “Featherweight’s big sister”, is one of the smoothest running sewing machines Singer ever made. It features a direct drive for excellent speed and power, weighs around 13 pounds, and uses common Featherweight bobbins.

This 1955 model has been fully refurbished and serviced. It has the original SIMANCO bobbin case, 6 bobbins, new wiring (one cord has a small nick that has been taped), the trapezoid hard case (one side has water staining), the original manual, and the classic card style table. It is in superb condition for its age with very little wear to the finish of the machine. The table has some patina around the sides and on the legs, but the top has been refinished as it was badly water stained and splintering when we got it. Now it shines with the natural golden luster it lost decades ago.

Refurbished by myself at Loop Solutions, it comes with a 90 day guarantee so you can purchase with confidence. Contact us to set a time to come see this beauty and feel how smoothly it sews.

There are days when a client (actually her husband) is traveling to get the sewing machines you just serviced. On a whim, you mention a taco stand you really like, on the way… about 30 minutes from your home, and they bring you a pair of tacos as a tip. What a great gesture. Thank you!

This machine and I have been on a journey... the owner of the machine has as well. This sewing machine, a Singer 25-56, is pretty rare. It's sole job is to sew straw braid into a spiral that eventually becomes a hat. It sews a single thread chain stitch like you might know from a feed bag. Super strong stitch, when applied properly.

My client, become pal @ Northwest Hats (If you are in the Pacific Northwest USA, check him out. Extremely talented guy.), had been on the hunt for one, and it kind of magically happened. He got us on board and sent it off to the spa.

This is a semi rare machine body that was built to do everything from stretch elastic insertion to, obviously, straw hat making. This is one of the more unusual variants.

It was a really fun machine to work on, as there aren't many out there. It also had a ton of "moving parts" that were not moving when I got it. The puzzle of what each part was and did is part of why I love what I do. The sewing machine was cute, but the bits and bobs were where the excitement resided.

Thanks Mike. It was an honor to spend time with this treasure.

First photo is after, second is before. The rest....during, after, issues, etc.

We recently refurbished this Singer 191R-21 for one of our clients. A machine you don't see in the US very often because they were made for the Mexican market in Mexico. Unfortunately there is not much record of the actual age of this machine, but it was made for about 10 years starting in 1959.

It was missing a few parts and had been stored, possibly outside for quite some time. Now it is shiny again, and sewing like a top.

Although not a monetarily valuable machine, this was my client's Mother's machine she had brought up from Mexico.

It is an uncommon occasion that a client calls us in their search for another collectible machine. It is even more unlikely that we have the machine they are looking for. This time it worked out.

A client who purchased a Singer 401A from Loop Solutions, a few years back, was looking to add a more portable sister machine. Specifically they wanted a 301A in the matching tan, with the long bed. As it happened, we hade one waiting for refurbishing.

Today we were able to get the pictured machine ready for a new home. Although not perfect, nothing made in 1953 is. Luckily the workings of the machine are in fantastic shape (especially after cleaning, adjustment, and lubrication) and the only noteable blemish is in one of the photos. A small chipping of the finish only adds character to most collectors.

We are excited for this machine, it’s soon to be owner, and the future they have together.

If you are looking for a specific machine, it never hurts to ask if we have one around. Sometimes it works out.

Now available.

In 2008, the Pfaff Creative Vision was the most advanced sewing machine Pfaff had ever produced. It features hundreds of built in stitches, loads of automatic buttonholes, built in needle threader, thread trimmer, large sewing field/throat, touch screen, drop in bobbin, LED lighting, needle up/down, direct USB connection for embroidery design loading, and many other features. This particular one was purchased by a sewing instructor and includes too many extra accessories to list, but to name a few; extra hoops, extra bobbins, a number of embroidery design cds, straight stitch plate, and carry case with rolling luggage cart.

Because it is a one owner machine, and owned by a sewing instructor, it has been very well maintained, regularly serviced, and tested by myself at Loop Solutions. All sewing functions work as they should. I did not test the embroidery feature.

This machine is not for the faint of heart, but for the truly creative individual looking to add a vast expanse of abilities to their sewing arsenal. It has features to make your imagination reality, no matter how outside the box your ideas are.

This machine does come with a Sew Steady table extension, but the legs were misplaced during a move. Since I am selling this for a friend (the original owner), they may be found as she unpacks her home. If not, they should be pretty easy to source from Sew Steady.

Contact us to come test this machine and see what a wonder it is.

Rehomed!

The Singer 401A brought the home sewing machine into a new dimension with its built-in cam stack for additional stitches and the ability to use additional cams (top hat style) for even more stitches. The direct drive motor made for smooth running and solid power for heavier fabrics as well as multiple step zig zag (built in) to accommodate the stretch fabrics that were becoming more popular. With its tan and ivory color scheme and modern styling it was an instant hit and sold millions in the years it was made.

This example was made in 1956 and comes in an interesting mid century modern style cabinet complete with real formica top. It has been fully reconditioned and includes the standard foot, 6 period appropriate bobbins, a zipper foot, period screwdriver, seam guide, one cam, and a seam ripper. It sews fast and smoothly and is ready for another 70 years of service. All wiring has been checked for safety, a modern LED light bulb has been installed, and it has been well lubricated with modern lubricants.

The cabinet is a bit unusual as I have not been able to find a similar one on the internet. It measures 43 1/4 x 16 3/4 inches, and features a clip in slot for the foot control which also works as an adapter to use your knee to control the machine. It also allows the machine to be tucked away so the surface can easily be used as a desk. The blond color accentuates the machine nicely and is in good condition, especially when the age is taken into consideration.

With over 20 years of direct sewing machine experience, Loop Solutions offers a warranty on our labor for 90 days, so you can purchase with confidence. Contact us to come test drive this sweet machine and bring some scraps of your own to test it out.
