One of my all-time favorite things is to find weird vintage art for my ownhome and our guesthouses.
I’ve got regular “vintage finished crewel/embroidery” and “vintage framed paint-by-number” searches set up at Etsy and eBay - and I’m never not looking on Facebook Marketplace or yard sales.
I zoomed in on some of my faves from our photos of our property at 40 Airport in Eldred so you can get a teensy glimpse of how adorable they are. How can these not make you smile?!
We didn’t get any great photos of the framed prints from cause of where they are located but the are also lovely.
I will die on the hill of buying only vintage or local art unless there is a super good reason not to (like I’m traveling and see something I can’t resist!)
It doesn’t even have to all just be framed art.
This guesthouse already had a dramatic plant wall in the kitchen/dining room when I took it over from my friends - and I’m dying to get more locally designed wallpaper like the kind we gave by Rural Modernist at guesthouse in Accord ….
And I really really want to find ways to incorporate murals by local artists also - there are for sure some good walls that could work.
A lot of the furniture we use in our guesthouses is repurposed from various other projects and our sellers needing to get rid of things. I love that for our budget and reusing vs buying new things - but the artwork is one of the places where I really get to indulge my personal obsession with cute animals, plants, and landscapes from the 50s-70s.
Hey, I’ll do anything to make these guesthouses feel more like homes and less like hotel rooms (she says as she rushes online to see if anything new has popped up….)!
