Have you ever heard the expression ‘value does all the work and color gets all the credit’? Well it’s true and before I start painting I’m going to do a couple of value studies and then move on to making color decisions…. What color to tone the background? What colors will I be using? What about the background? Canvas or paper …ugh… I’m going to have to just lean in to the decision making process - ha!

I’m starting a new piece for the OAG Small Works Show in June and one of the challenges of figure drawing is getting the gesture correct…in this case how to make the figure feel ‘weight’ on the back leg and the head to feel like it’s ‘hanging down’. The sketch needs to be accurate before I can start painting so I’ll be double and triple checking!!!!

Moving in day!! There was a lot of furniture building, painting, and tweaking going on the past month or so…add to that an Art show and taking care of family….but here we are…this is the before …Will post an after pic as well - still so much to do!!
