de Dampierre was raised in Paris and currently resides in Manhattan and in Litchfield County, CT. de Dampierre is a noted interior designer and furniture historian. As an author, her best seller, The Best of Painted Furniture, published 15 years ago (Rizzoli International), is respected as one of the finest books on the topic, and was her first book. Florence de Dampierre Antiques, which she began
in 1985 in New York City, was the first American antique shop devoted to 18th & 19th century painted furniture. She has been a contributing editor to House & Garden magazine, has designed rooms for the French Designer Show House and maintains a select roster of personal clients. She has lectured at museums around the country including the Museum of the City of New York, and the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT and has curated shows at the Caramoor Museum in Katonah, NY. In 1992 she was included in Eleanor Lambert's Best Dressed List as one of the twelve best dressed woman in the world. de Dampierre is also the mother of two sons and a daughter.
