Living Moss Bath Mat by Nguyen La Chanh
Designer Nguyen La Chanh has developed a unique and eco-friendly design for the bathroom — a moss bath mat.

It was created as a final project for L’école cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ECAL) in Switzerland. However, after the photos were posted on social media, Nguyen La Chanh began to get a lot of comments asking where to buy this product. Then the designer decided to put it into production.

The hard frame of the mat is made of foamed plastazote latex, in which various types of moss are embedded. Nguyen La Chanh chose different varieties of globe moss, island moss and forest moss to create a striking design that could be displayed in a modern art gallery or in your home.

The most remote places of Russia in Arseniy Kotov's photos

Arseniy Kotov was born in Samara in 1986. He is engaged in the photography of the cities of the post-Soviet space. In one of the interviews, Arseniy said that he never took photography courses. Photography for him is a "serious hobby". Last few years Kotov devoted himself to traveling around the cities, taking pictures of their landscapes and interesting buildings.

Often gloomy shots impress with their atmosphere. Arseniy says that there is a probability that all these buildings will be destroyed soon, and that is why he seeks to preserve them in his photographs and to convey this beauty to other people.

In an interview with The Calvert Journal, Kotov spoke about his travels: “I plan a long route so that I can visit as many sights as possible in one trip. In Russia, I usually travel on a minimal budget. I hitchhike from one place to another.”

Arseniy almost does not edit his photographs, that’s why the pictures remain natural and convey the feelings that people can experience when visiting these deserted places.

Yuanyang Rice Terraces in China

Yuanyang is famous for its rice terraces, which are considered the most beautiful in China. Yuanyang is located in Honghe Prefecture in the southeast of Yunnan Province. Its rice terraces are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Rice fields stretch along the Honga River, towering 140 meters above it. They are located in the mountains at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level.

For 1,300 years, the Hani people living in these remote areas developed a complex system of canals. Water is delivered to the terraces through them from the forested mountain peaks.
Hani inhabits 82 villages, which are located between forests and rice terraces. If one day you go on a trip to Yuanyang, you can not only enjoy the incredible views of the rice fields but also immerse yourself in the traditional Hani culture with its customs and folk festivals.

Chinese jewelry brand YVMIN has turned prosthetics into art!

Model Xiao Yang from Chengdu, China has been wearing a prosthesis for almost 20 years. She says that she experienced difficulties with the selection of clothes and could not follow fashion for a long time. “In high school, when I really wanted to dress up, I thought that the prosthesis affected my external beauty,” says Xiao Yang in an interview for Vogue. However, she decided to start experimenting with clothing, and she wanted the prosthesis to reflect her chic modern style.

Earlier this year, Yang met with two designers from Chinese jewelry brand YVMIN, Xiaoyu Zhang and Min Li. Together they came up with the idea that prosthetics could be an art that could be worn.

Yang immediately agreed to turn her prosthetic into a bright accessory. “This project shows everyone that wearing a prosthesis is a fact that cannot be changed, but it is also possible to wear a prosthesis that looks great,” Yang says.

What do you think of the idea of a prosthesis as an interesting accessory that can complement a look?

Dalniye Zelentsy through the lens of Alina Romanova

Alina Romanova explores ‘disappearing’ Russia. She travels along non-standard and hard-to-reach routes of the country visits non-tourist, abandoned, and little-known places. She shared with us the story of a trip to Dalniye Zelentsy, a small village in the Kola area of Murmansk oblast’.

“Arrived in Dalniye Zelentsy, we headed to the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute (MMBI), a once “city-forming” company, engaged in the study of biology and oceanology of the northern (and nowadays also southern) seas.

Even before the appearance of MMBI here, the Murmansk Biological Station of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR was opened in Zelentsy in 1935. But in 1958, after reorganization processes, it became the Institute. Nowadays the building of the institute is abandoned and it is living its last days in the harsh northern climate. The MMBI itself has been based in Murmansk since 1989, while the base for experimental work is preserved in Zelentsy.

In addition to the institute, there is a diving center in Zelentsy. A corrosion station also operates here, MMBI employees work, and 15 people of the local population continue to live.

We went for a walk around Zelentsy. Destroyed houses, abandoned boats, cold winds, and the endless beauty of northern nature — that's what Dalniye Zelentsy is all about. The very edge of the world."
