☝️ Create a policy around your communication boundaries, including HOW you want to communicate with clients (email, Slack, text) and WHEN

📅 Designate 1-2 days a week where you take meetings, so you can have uninterrupted days for focus & creative work (or just free time!)

⏰ Communicate through recorded videos when possible instead of live calls or zoom meetings so you can share feedback on your time, not someone else's

Part 2 of the client project I posted about yesterday! This is the design the client chose. The decorative teardrop shapes, clean lines, and high contrast sans serif worked to evoke some art deco vibes, which I think was a great choice to tie it in with the bar area where they planned to hang the print.

These are the 4 color options I presented to fit with the color scheme of the room (light gray/blue walls & dark gray cabinets with copper accents).

We ultimately went with the first one (black/gray background), which I think gave it an awesome modern industrial feel. Which option is your favorite??

(Btw, this commission came right after I finished 's excellent Slayout Lettering Masterclass, which reeeeally helped me streamline my process for coming up with interesting lettering layouts — so big shout out to him/ for the help! 🙏🏻)

Top 9 of 2020... you guys really loved xmas trees and serifs, hated trump, commiserated with the exhausting and anxiety-inducing events of the year, and helped me celebrate some of my small wins. Thanks for being around, cheers to a better year moving forward 🥂

In memory of Chadwick Boseman, King T’Challa 😔 This line at the end of Black Panther gets me every time. I remember thinking how applicable it was when the movie came out in 2018... it’s unfortunate that we’re still in a pretty similar place today.

Another fangirl tribute to - LOVED the episode talking about women's reproductive health. If you're someone who doesn't have the pleasure (LOL) of experiencing periods and menopause and all the (beautiful, natural, amazing) GARBAGE female bodies have to go through, do yourself a favor and listen to this one for the sake of all the people you know with periods.

We shouldn't be made to feel like what's happening to our bodies our whole lives is "gross," or taboo or inappropriate to talk about. That's how we get into the position where old white men see fit to pass laws about what we can or can't do with them, we have systems and workplaces that aren't designed for our success, and our illnesses and conditions go unresearched or cared about. The fact that we are expected to put up with extreme discomfort while simultaneously being as successful and unburdened as any man is, frankly, absurd and needs to be talked about more.

Thank you for helping me feel seen as I listened on a jog I took to try to boost some endorphins while I fought off a bad mood from PMS, and for sparking insightful, open conversation about all the uterus things within my group of lady friends 💕

I've been finding a lot of solace and hope in 's new podcast lately. She and her guests discuss and acknowledge social issues going on in the world today, but it's uplifting rather than overwhelming as they talk through things and think about ways forward - which has been a MUCH needed break from the constant bombardment of negativity and hate we've been hearing most everywhere else 😌⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This was a message shared by her episode 2 guest - as we all wish we could go back to "normal," remember that normal didn't work for a lot of people in this country. Going back to normal isn't an option; we need to strive for BETTER as we work our way out of this mess 💗

Today my hometown is voting on whether or not to keep their racist high school mascot. This is after 3 previous attempts to change it. It’s so disheartening to me that this is even something that needs to be debated at all, let alone multiple times.
The fact that something has been going on for several years does NOT automatically lend it merit. Just because something is part of history doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a good thing. Stop touting this tired excuse of “tradition.” Stop trying to claim that expenses carry more weight than the injustice felt by BIPOC every day. Schools should be a place where ALL children feel safe and included and respected, not just the white ones.
It is gut wrenching to see some of my former teachers and parents in the community where I grew up fighting to KEEP a racist mascot in a high school, as they lash out and leave threatening messages on school board members’ voicemails. With everything going on in the world today I sincerely hope the board members make the right choice and that this is the last time we have to have this infuriating discussion.
