INFORMATION ON WHAT SPECIFICATIONS MATTER WHEN choosing and ORDERING A HOOD INSERT….

WHAT IS THE BEST CFM RATING FOR YOUR RANGE HOOD/INSERT AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

CFM, which stands for cubic feet per minute, is a rating number used to measure how much air a range hood can transfer. How much fan POWER your insert will have.

Examples ratings include 200, 300, 400, 600, and 900; the higher the CFM rating number, the better, as it indicates the power to remove dangerous emissions, smoke, odors, and heat from your kitchen more effectively and quickly.
Removing dangerous emissions (gas tops), smoke, and heat from the air also protects your kitchen from absorbing unwanted odors, grease, and other particles, keeping the space cleaner, more sanitary, more comfortable, and pleasant.

ELECTRIC VS GAS RANGES:
Typically, gas cooktops/ranges require a higher CFM rating compared to electric ones due to excessive combustion that causes smoke.

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, a minimum of 100 CFM is required per 10,000 BTU.
An example for a standard 30” gas cooktop would need a 600-900CFM.
On the other hand, electric cooktops require a much lower CFM rating, as they produce only a fraction of the smoke compared to traditional gas cooktops.
Therefore, 27-30” electric cooktop would need a 200, 300, or 400 CFM would be sufficient.

RANGE TOP SIZE (30” VS. 36”)

The size of your range hood determines what is needed for the optimal CFM rating for your kitchen.
A standard 30-inch range with a gas cooktop requires about 400-600 CFM rating, and if it's electric, the recommended CFM rating goes down to 200-400.

If you have a larger 36-inch range at home, you'll need 600-900 CFM for gas cooktops and 400-600 for electric cooktops.

Ducted or Ductless ?

The most common reason that people choose a ductless method for kitchen emission removal over ducted is due to a lack of ductwork. If you don’t have ductwork (and/or don’t want to add it), you can use a ductless range hood to clean and deodorize the air in your kitchen. Homeowners may also use a ductless range hood due to a lack of space in their kitchens. Finally, ductless range hoods give you more options for installation. If you’re not quite sure where you want to install your hood just yet, a ductless operation could be a good choice. Ductless range hoods can be installed over an island, below a cabinet, or elsewhere.
