Check out woodworking as I see it at the Crooked Stick. One of a kind bowls, platters, bird houses, magnets and decorative pieces. All made in Michigan with my two hands from wood I've salvaged from Michigan trees.

I’ve got a handful of old work gathering dust. I thought I’d have a last minute Christmas sale. Free local pickup or “at cost” shipping. Prices and dimensions are in the description of each picture.

If you want one, please reply directly in the comments for the relevant picture. We can take care of the details in a private message, but if the initial “I want this one” happens where everyone can see, then there’s no confusion about what’s still for sale and who spoke up first.

More pictures and descriptions are available for everything...but it might take a couple of hours for me to get to it.

I’m happily dorking out with the primary literature. This is Austin Burt’s 2003 seminal paper...that none of you have heard of. It’s full of outdated techniques, and brilliant ideas that seeded the minds of an entire generation of researchers.

As happy as I am, I keep thinking about all of my artist friends. For almost all of them, art shows are how they make money to live. Speaking for myself, art shows were 85% of my annual income. With all of the spring shows being cancelled and summer shows on the chopping block, most artists are in a rough spot. The CARES Act entitles them to unemployment, but most states haven’t figured out how to make it happen yet. Last year’s money has been spent, booth fees have mostly been paid, taxes are looming, and with the world closed how do you sell anything? Most of them have lots of inventory. If you’re lucky enough to have disposable income and need a gift or want something for yourself, pull out those old business cards you collected at art shows and give them a jingle. Or go to the website for your favorite art show and check out the links to the artists from last year. Here are links to a few artists I’ve become friends with and whose work I admire. Give them a look.
