ISLAND DESTINATION: Cuba
ISLAND BAT: Cuban flower bat (Phyllonycteris poeyi)

This species faces limited habitat options due to the ecological specialization of its roosting needs, and it is threatened by the loss of natural vegetation and fragmentation of foraging resources. BCI is pleased to have great partners with the Program for Cuban Bat Conservation (PCM-Cu) working to conserve this and many other species on the island.

The spraying of insecticides kills bees, bats, fish, and numerous other animals, and of course is dangerous for humans as well. Why not use organic means of pest control as bats and birds?
Do you know that every night each bat eats more than a third of its weight in insect pests? If you have a colony of a couple hundred bats on your property you should expect a significant reduction in the number of insects in your local area.
Say NO to the spraying!

Residents in one Colorado community say the large number of bees dying off in the area has them concerned, and they are asking Colorado’s pesticide enforcement agency to look into the situation.
