Goodbye cold, hard concrete. I've just finished installing rubber flooring in the garage. It should make it a warmer and more comfortable place to work.

A year after getting my dust collector, I'm finally setting up proper ducting. No more dragging a single hose around. Now each tool will be connected to the system.

Sharpening up my new (to me) backsaw. This saw only needed a light filing. I'm trying to maintain the original tooth configuration as much as possible. It was filled as a rip saw and I'm going to keep it that way.

My wife's new wfh desk is now finished and installed. It's just under 8 feet long, so she should have plenty of room to spread out her work. It's cherry with a shellec and Arm-r-Seal finish.
This is the second desk like this I've made. I made one for myself right before the pandemic (during my instagram break, so no build pictures). I've been using it every day for my job. I like the freedom of being able to use the full desk width.

Usually I just use Arm-r-Seal alone on cherry, but for this desk, I'm starting with a couple coats of garnet shellac. So far I like the look. Tomorrow I'll start applying the poly top coat.

As a side note, I applied shellac to the underside of the desk a few days ago, leaving the top bare, and I'm starting to see some cupping. I'm not concerned, but it does make me question the idea that finishing the underside of a piece is unnecessary.

I added a heavy coat of black wax over the green milk paint. I was going for a finish that would blend in well in the woods. I'm still waiting on the hardware to come in the mail, I got some nice cast iron handles and a hasp. The last step is to figure out how I want to organize the camping gear.

I'm honing the final edge on the kitchen knife. The kit is very sharp out of the box, so it just takes a little time on an 8000 grit stone to bring out the final edge.

I decided to go with a simple boiled linseed oil finish for the handle. I generally don't like film finishes on knife and tool handles. I warmed up the oil before applying. It seemed to go on better with some heat in my cold garage.

I used a belt sander for the heavy shaping, now I'm finishing up by hand. I'll go up to 400 grit. The finish is TBT. I've got some Tried and True Original that I wanted to try, but it's turned solid in my cold garage. Plus, I've heard it takes awhile it dry, and this knife need to be done next week.
