This sweet vanity came to me in many pieces ( the mirror frame in 5 pieces). I should have listened to my wife Terri and took some "before" photos. I would estimate it's time of construction as around 1900. Most definitely handmade. The builder was obviously skilled although not necessarily a professional as construction details pertaining to wood movement were faulty. Perhaps the lumber was not properly dried as well .The result was extreme cracking of the sides and top horizontal surfaces. It will never be perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Y'all may remember that small table I created a few years ago that had Deco inspired inlays. The inspiration for the inlays came from photos of a building in Roanoke VA that the customer sent to me. I thought it turned out quite well and so did the customer. So much so that he has ordered another except with different inlays ( still from the same building). This is what I'll be working on during next weekend's "Northeast Georgia Arts Tour" November 7-9 10am to 9 pm every day. I hope you have a chance to stop by.

I finished the three small chests of drawers, each in a different wood. Two are already sold and the last will be on display for the Northeast Georgia Arts Tour this June 6-8. This design comes with a bit of a story:

"PIRATES" CHEST of DRAWERS

Okay, so maybe Schooner George wasn't a pirate, but he was a smuggler. It was he who commissioned the first rendition of this chest. George asked for it to be small - just for use by guests in his guest room. The design was up to me. Due to the fact that George was an accomplished artist and his island home was as actual sculpture, I decided to keep it simple. It did however, need to be unique and creative. The unique drawer pulls were the answer. I liked the design so much I made one for myself. As a rule I don't make more than one of any design.

For the first time I'm making multiple copies of a furniture design. This little chest of drawers has always been a popular item in the showroom so now I am building three more in Ash, Sapele, and Cherry. Two are already sold.

Just brought in a wonderful bow front chest of drawers, circa 1780. Handmade. Solid single board Mahogany top. Back attached with brad size cut square nails. I feel it's a privilege to work on such pieces of history.

I get the most interesting and challenging projects. This time it's a large model of a Chinese junk in need of new wood veneer sails. I'll be working on it during this weekend's Art Tour.
