I think Jenny spotted it on my last post! Good eye my fiend! 👀
I had this gorgeous 😍 set of Carolina Mirror Company mirrors 🪞🪞in my inventory. They were both gold to begin with, but very different shades.
My customer purchased them from me and asked for matching vintage gold. So, I used gilding wax to create a more vintage vibe rather than spray paint, which can sometimes be too perfect and stark.
Weeeeeeell I finished up and was doing some touch-ups when I realized that part of the end detail was completely gone! 🙈 I’m not sure how I missed that🤷🏻♀️ as I’m super attentive to detail, but somehow it snuck by me! 😳
So, back to work 🏃🏻♀️➡️ I went and crafted a replica piece using the other mirror’s left side. I forgot to take a pic of how I did that specific part, but I sprayed it with cooking spray, used my hot glue gun to lay a light layer of glue all over the pointed piece, let it sit, and then used some masking tape to wrap around it to hold its shape. (The cooking spray was so that the glue would easily slide off when I pulled it off)
I then filled that piece with lots of Bondo. I had a terrible time pulling the glue off the Bondo when it was hardened, so I had to veeeery carefully make slits with a knife🔪 to slowly peel it away from the rock solid Bondo.
Of course when you pull off the glue, you’re left with a mould that needs some attention to say the least. So, out came the dremel to shape it up.
Once it was how I wanted it to look and fit it perfectly🙌🏼 , I used some gorilla glue and a clamp and let it sit overnight 😴
Some final touches in the morning, another couple layers of my gold wax 🎨 and you can’t even tell it was missing. 🔎
I’m super proud of how this set came out 🤜🏼 and the customer who drove 4️⃣ HOURS round trip LOVES 🫶🏻them! That always makes my ❤️ happy 😃 💃🏻
Thank you for trusting me with these beauties, Jamie!
It was a pleasure working with you! 🤝
