Just finished another Coffee cart for a buddy of mine. I made this one with another pattern plywood base and the sides from red maple. This one was my first project completed from wood I processed from complete log rounds. It sure easier buying dimensional lumber but boy is it satisfying to make your own stuff sometimes.

Paubrazil - Natural | For me, Brazilian Coffees aren't necessarily my go to for a single origin but Paubrazil is a great exception. With notes of chocolate, roasted pecans and sugary dried cherry, this Brazilian leaves you wanting more.

Coffee Refractometers, what are they and what do they do? A lot of really cool stuff that's what. Coffee refractometers are a tool used in conjunction with tasting coffee to evaluate and quantify the extraction of brewed coffee. Within specialty coffee it is widely accepted that coffee should be brewed generally within 18%-22%. Now we can use normal brew rations, 16:1, and a proven brew method like a pour over, that will give us a general brewed coffee that we can and will enjoy but knowing precisely your extraction value is impossible without a refractometer. If you really want to dig deeper and start to understand the science/mathematics of extraction, using a refractometer is a great tool to dial in your coffee.

Thinking back a few weeks ago when I did a tasting class for some friends and family. One of the most fun aspects of this industry is being able to educate and expand peoples understanding of what coffee is. Moving forward, I'm gonna be doing so more tasting and brewing courses so keep a watch out for those as the come.

Reduce, Reuse, Rethink & Recycle. The beverage industry as a whole does a lot of damage as far as waste goes. Fortunately however, in recent years, its been more main stream for coffee companies to make the transition to reusable, recyclable or even compostable cups. But, you don't have to wait for your favorite coffee shop to start using compostable cups to start to make a difference. Using your own reusable mug works great (just please wash it out before taking it in) and for events where you might have to use paper cups check your local store for cup options. My local Bel Air has these composable cups as a set with the sleeve and lid for not much more than other styrofoam cup options. So next time, reduce the amount of single use cups by reusing ones you already have. Rethink if you really need it, and if so, recycle all that you can.

No dye, just roasted coffee and farm fresh eggs. Yes, processed coffee starts out green and heads into the roaster green, then through the roasting process gets the color you're most familiar with.

Different chicken breeds however do lay different color eggs.

Eggs from left to right.
Araucana, green eggs
Buff Orpington, light brown eggs
Speckled Sussex, darker brown eggs
Marans, chocolate brown eggs

And no, the eggs aren't dyed. Those are all natural eggs straight from the chicken. Different breeds of chickens can have different colored eggs.

I've been working on some more coffee related wood projects. This is a single dosing coffee cart made from maple and a small strip of walnut. There was a wood void in part of the maple so I filled it with a blue epoxy that matches with the coffee canisters. Let me know what you guys think about it.

Obsidian Blend. This is my main coffee blend comprised of a 40/30/30 percent composition of Brazilian/Guatemalan/Colombian. It's also my darkest roasted coffee. Over all, I intended it to be a bridge coffee, hopefully giving the darker roast coffee drinkers something to try that might be a little lighter than they are used to but still approachable. But also something that a light roast coffee drinker wouldn't find too dark and difficult to extract in different brew methods. If you haven't tried it yet, hop on over to the website and order yours today.
