I’ve been blessed by so many generous people in this furniture painting community!

A fellow artist was moving and had this beautiful secretary that she couldn’t take with her. She gifted it to me. In the process of my moves, it began to fall a part. So I put it in the garage and waited for a vision. It was in pieces for quite a while. Then I pulled it out, found all the pieces and started putting her together. Testing my cabinet making skills, painting skills, and pulling apart other pull handles, I finally put her together in her almost final vision! All that’s missing are the shelves, currently in the garage drying.

All this to say, don’t give up on yourself and your abilities, no matter what they are! Keep pushing to completion. Run your race with confidence, no matter how long it takes to get to the finish line!! Some things will be seen here in time, others when we get to our final resting place.

“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1b

Keep following for the final product!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Gorgeous, hard working, future building Mom’s! Hope you are having a wonderful day enjoying time with your beautiful families celebrating you!!

I started my day with a little coffee watching the sun rise, and and then a hop into the garage and my happy space.

The American Empire chest of drawers has been put to the side while I figure out the stain in the marble top - see the pic 🥴 any advice would be absolutely welcomed!

While that’s working out, I pulled another beauty out! This is a modern colonial style secretary that was given to me in pieces. No shame here! I love a good challenge. Here she is, being reassembled with glue, clamps and lots of cleaning. I got a good start, now to enjoy the rest of my day going out to lunch.

Keep following to see what this one will look like! (and the status of the marble top) I’ve chosen the color, and I may put a decoupage on it for a pop of color! (the secretary, that is)

Look at her! She’s absolutely stunning, even with her marble top off. That’s right, marble top!

This is an American Empire Flame Mahogany chest of drawers, circa somewhere around 1870’s. This was previously owned by someone that was about 75 years old and the story is, is that it has been in the family since the original date of purpose, being handed down, generation to generation. Amazing story for an amazing piece.

This will be my first attempt at restoring a piece like this using antique mahogany gel stain, an oil based stain, and then an oil based top coat. It has some missing veneer as well, so I bought some at a local store for a $1 a foot. Unbelievably cheap! So, here is the before picture and I will post as I go along so you can follow along in this journey with me.

I didn’t post it, but the marble top was severely stained! I used multiple natural remedies and I think I finally got it clean enough to take it to a marble place to polish and shine. I had to make sure I could get that clean before I moved onto the actual piece because building a top out of any other than original mahogany just would not have worked.

So here we go! Next step is stripping. Stay tuned!

Milkpaint always surprises me. It goes on thin and opaque, almost like water. When dry, it has a chalky, “milky” finish. A little Wise Owl Natural Furniture Wax- Clear and it comes back to life, showing the grain underneath and giving it that wonderful glow. It’s the perfect way to keep the grain and change the color just a bit.
