Calais 802

Calais 802 The "perfectly imperfect", Mirror Lake, where generations swam and rowed. This is what inspires me to color my world. Calais 802 comes from my heart and my soul.

Calais, Vermont, where my love for old barns, grassy fields with June bugs singing their steady tune under the star filled sky, apple trees, my first pair of garden gloves, eating snap peas straight from the garden, old painted blue washed cupboards in my Oma’s kitchen, faded, rusted patina of old garden tools and watering buckets left out in long rainy Vermont mud season, short but sweet summers,

piles of lonely furniture in the barn loft with prominent yet faded colors peeking out to say hello. Walking down in just our suits equipped with chalky, faded, black inner tube under arm. The wide plank boards of the swimming platform with it’s majestic galvanized zinc floaters and useless broken ladder. Colors, objects, faded red canoes tied-up, dancing by the boat house, so many colors, textures. As a little girl, I knew even then that these simple things made me very happy and I have forever absorbed the beauty in them all. It inspires the paints I mix, the pieces I paint.
