Metzger Woodworks

Metzger Woodworks Creating custom furniture, built-ins, and cabinetry. And whatever else you might dream up. I am a husband, stay-at-home dad, Army veteran, and avid woodworker.

I, like many others who share an interest in woodworking, started because my wife wanted something for the house. Since building that first, and quite hideous, entryway bench roughly 8 years ago, I have found a true passion in this craft of woodworking. I strive to convey this passion in each and every project I undertake, creating pieces to be proud of for years to come.

While one of my favorite aspects of custom woodworking is the wide variety of projects it brings to my shop, I absolutely enjoy iterating on an idea and making it something more. This kitchen, inspired by a previous project, really comes into its own with an overall increase in dimensions, natural wood freezer and fridge doors, as well as a matching footed base to really elevate the piece. Thank you Marquel Stuedemann for the opportunity to work with you!

Alright folks, I'm really excited to finally get to show this one to you! I have a bit of caulking and paint touch-ups yet to do, and there are no decorations to dress it up, but I didn't want to wait any longer. This basement entertainment center combines a soothing green with the beauty of a lightly stained cherry hardwood. Contrasted with bright white nickel gap and basket weave wallpaper back panels, it keeps the space pleasantly bright for a basement living room.

Additionally, there are some really neat features that aren't apparent at first glance. These include:

* full 48" deep center drawer that retracts into a small wall cavity under the fireplace above for massive storage

* metal grommets located in the countertops and back panels allow access to outlets in the base cabinets from anywhere in the uppers

* removable panels in the nickel gap behind the TV let you run cables to/from devices without a cord in sight

* magnetically secured panel grants access to the plumbing clean-out hidden behind the upper cabinet on the right side

It has been an incredibly fun, challenging, and rewarding project.
All that being said, I'd love to hear what you think!

It's been quiet here lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy. I've had several awesome projects going on, and I'm excited to finally show one of them to you. This trestle table has a beautiful solid ash top - but the fun part really was the base. I came across a photo of an old painted cabinet that really struck me, and I wanted to see if I could translate that into this table somehow. It was a lot of fun making a more rustic piece, I would definitely enjoy more of them. What do you think?

Calling all puzzlers! This clever little table lets you complete your puzzle at your own relaxing pace and still have a table to use when you need it. Simply push the mechanism underneath to raise the end panel enough to remove them, and put them back in place when you need to use your table for less important non-puzzling things! This one has yet to be delivered, I was just too excited to wait - it was a fun one. Enjoy!

We have a new shop!!! All inspections were passed, and I'm getting moved in. Things are still very temporary as I continue to build shop furniture and get new tools acquired and situated. I'm pretty certain this will be a never-ending process as the workspace will grow and change continually. I can't express how excited I am to be able to officially work in this new space. The first big project is already underway, so stay tuned!

Delivered this custom end table last night, the last small project during shop construction. This one was pretty interesting. As you can see in the photos, the usable space behind the door is only half of the overall depth of the piece. This clever thing was designed and built to act as a shroud to hide the main water shut-off for the home, which was previously accessible by little curious hands. What do you think of this solution?
