We think the lake air will win out today, keeping Beloit cooler than many forecast apps are advertising.
One of the biggest weather battles in the Midwest is happening over the Stateline today.
Most weather apps are pushing low 80s for Beloit, but the atmosphere may have other plans.
A persistent east/northeast wind is pulling cooler Great Lakes air inland across southern Wisconsin. That creates a microclimate battle zone where temperatures can dramatically change over short distances.
Rockford may push warmer.
Milwaukee stays much cooler.
Beloit sits right in the middle of the fight.
That’s why today’s forecast is tricky.
If sunshine wins out early, upper 70s to near 80 is possible. But if the northeast lake-fed flow holds stronger through the afternoon, temperatures may underperform and stay several degrees cooler than many apps are showing.
This is exactly why Great Lakes Weather Authority was built.
The Great Lakes don’t just affect the shoreline. They influence severe weather, snow bands, fog, summer heat, and spring warmups across the entire Stateline region.
Forecasting here is not copy-and-paste weather.
It’s microclimate meteorology.
