URSA FIELD REPORT no. 04

The Bradford Pear was once considered the perfect suburban tree.

Fast growing. Attractive. Low maintenance.

Further testing was required.

Modern observations have revealed brittle limbs, invasive tendencies, and a fragrance frequently compared to things not typically associated with flowers.

Scientists now consider the species problematic.

Woodworkers remain willing to overlook these character flaws.

Current Habitat: Barboursville, Virginia.

Conservation Status: Available.

URSA FIELD REPORT no. 03

The Mulberry has spent generations quietly producing durable lumber, edible fruit, and shade.

For reasons that remain unclear, it has never hired a competent marketing department.

As a result, many people are unaware that Mulberry is among the more rot-resistant hardwoods native to North America.

This specimen appears unconcerned by that fact.

Current Habitat: Barboursville, Virginia.

Conservation Status: Available.

URSA FIELD REPORT #002

The Black Walnut is among North America's most confident tree species.

It spends its life poisoning nearby competition, hoarding sunlight, and growing valuable wood.

Scientists generally describe this behavior as allelopathy.

Normal people call it being kind of a jerk.

Walnut remains highly sought after despite these personality flaws.

Current Habitat: Barboursville, Virginia.

Conservation Status: Available.

URSA FIELD REPORT #001

Here we observe a mature Ash shortly after its transformation into a slab.
Note the forked crown structure, once used to gather additional sunlight above the forest canopy.
The markings scattered across the surface are evidence of a brief insect occupation. Like many tenants, they left behind a mess and no forwarding address.
Despite these challenges, the specimen remains stable, attractive, and surprisingly cooperative.

Current Habitat: Barboursville, Virginia
Conservation Status: Available

Its like a record of energy spent. An illustration of time lapsed throughout the trees life. I love it.
