Kismet Design Works

Kismet Design Works KismetDesignWorks creates handmade belts and leather fashion accessories using unique materials on premium leather.

I'm not an 'off the rack' kind of girl....I like things that are custom, not mass produced. Making leather fashion accessories has been a way to express just that. Using premium leathers, I strive to design items that have rhythm and balance in pattern, color, and texture. Originally, I was using just Swarovski crystals and studs. In the last year or so, I've branched into using turquoise, lapis a

nd coral. In additon to these, you might find pieces with various studs, upholstery tacks, Czech glass buttons; anything I find that might be an interesting combination.

Another piece made using brindle hair on hide. The centerpiece of this cuff is a vintage earring from a pair I found a while back at the Pine Emporium, the coolest antique store around located in Pine, Colorado. The bright earring is accented by a laced edge in a lighter yellow. Bright green and perfect for spring! Available at A Borgata in Conifer.

I started out in leather doing studded belts, but really don’t do many of them any more. Finished this belt today - it’s what I call ‘Snake Eyes’ and I’ve actually made a few more of this one for people over the years. It’s on brindle hair on cow hide and has a vintage buckle set. The brown settings are subtle and set off the sparkle from the crystals, but it’s really all about the texture. Yep, I think I remember how to make a belt!

With five holes, it will fit 31”-35”. Going to drop it off at A Borgata, but if you’re interested, let me know.

I recently picked up a bunch of vintage earrings from a couple estate sales. They all had screw or lever backs, so weren’t something that gets worn much any more. After cutting off the backs, I mounted them to leather that I stamped and painted specifically for each pair. A whole new look for some vintage pieces. Available in my Etsy shop, or message me.

Presenting my new product! Found another use for the pretty Czech glass buttons - hair clips decorated with leather, crystals, and studs. Of the five clips shown, four have Czech buttons, one has an upholstery tack as a center piece. Any guesses which one it is?

I’ve been fascinated with these Czech glass buttons for some time now. The Czech Republic is renowned for their glassworks, and the glass buttons are no exception. Made in vintage molds, the buttons are hand painted on the underside (“reverse painted”) for over all color, then detail painted on the front. And although they’re buttons, they’re frequently used as hand made pieces for all sorts of jewelry items.

This cuff has a turquoise colored button as a centerpiece, with floral designed stamping around it colored in turquoise.

Our Story

I started doing leather in 2007 when I wanted a studded belt that was just a little bit more of my own design. I proceeded to take apart a very, very expensive crystal and studded belt I had just to see how it was done. Hmm.. I think I can do that.....

Originally, I was using just Swarovski crystals and studs, but soon branched into using turquoise, lapis and coral. Tooling, stamping, lacing, and using vintage and other unique pieces followed. I strive for rhythm and balance in design and color, a reflection of the journey in life for the same.
