Every piece I build at J. K. Oliver Woodworks has a story, and this one is still waiting for its next chapter.

This solid oak standing desk was originally handcrafted as a $4,500 custom commission. It's a beautiful, substantial piece of furniture, built right here in Buda, Texas, with the same care, attention to detail, and commitment to quality that goes into everything I create.

I'd love to see it find a home where it will be appreciated and put to good use!

Think about how much life happens around a dining table.

Details matter. And so does what happens around the table.

Today, I had the opportunity to stop by Rubio Monocoat in Spicewood, right here in the Texas Hill Country, to pick up some finish for a client's dining table restoration.

I spent the day bringing new life to a beautiful walnut dining table that this family purchased seven years ago. I captured a few videos along the way to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the process.

But the best part of the day came when the client saw the finished table and told me it looked better than the day they bought it seven years ago!

That's the kind of feedback that makes what I do so rewarding.

Details matter. From the hardwood I select to the finishes I trust, every decision has a purpose. That's why I use quality products like Rubio Monocoat. I want the tables I build and restore to stand up to everyday family life while showcasing the natural beauty of real wood.

My mission has always been about more than building furniture. It's about bringing families back to the table.

Because a dining table isn't just a place to eat. It's where conversations happen, memories are made, prayers are shared, and traditions are passed from one generation to the next.

I truly couldn’t imagine doing life with anyone else. You amaze me every day with your calm spirit, your grace, your beautiful heart, and the way you care so deeply for everyone around you. Your thoughtfulness, kindness, and love make me want to be a better man every single day.

You are my better half, my very best friend, and the greatest blessing in my life. I’m so thankful I get to walk through this life by your side.

Not every project that comes out of our shop is a dining table!

While dining tables are at the heart of what we do, sometimes it’s the smaller pieces that make a space feel complete.

This custom solid hardwood accent table was built for a local financial advisor’s office. At just 32” wide, 16” deep, and 36” tall, it’s a great example of how a simple, thoughtfully designed piece can bring warmth and character to a space.

From selecting the lumber to the final finish, the same attention to detail goes into this table as our largest dining tables.

One year ago, I took the leap into full-time entrepreneurship.

In many ways, it feels like it’s flown by—but in that time, I’ve learned more than I could have imagined. And at the same time, I’m reminded daily of how much there still is to learn in the years ahead. As the saying goes, “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey”—and this first year has shown me just how true that really is.

After spending 20 years serving entrepreneurs in the banking industry, I thought I had a solid understanding of what it took to run a business. This past year has given me an entirely new level of respect for the dedication, endurance, and resilience it requires day in and day out.

To my clients—thank you for your trust. It means more than you know.

To my family and friends—thank you for your constant support, encouragement, and belief in me.
