Happy belated anniversary to US!!!! 🥂✨heck to the ya!!!!!!

On April 17th, 2021, Norma made her debut at the now-retired Violet Crown Club. Looking back, five years of magic, learning, and constant pivoting feels absolutely surreal.

To anyone running a small business, you know the hustle is real—but reaching this milestone is just insane!
If only “baby Jackie” could see us now. I am so deeply proud, humbled, and overjoyed by how far we’ve come. Owning a small business is a total TRIP, and I honestly couldn’t have found a better community to share the flower love with. ATX, thank you for embracing us from day one and supporting my “Covid pivot” with such open arms.

Last month we had the honor of surprising my Omi’s senior community with bud vases for each of their rooms.

My Dad,son, and Aunt helped pass them out. You should have seen her neighbors faces light up. This is what life is all about. Spreading love and kindness. And squeezing the most out of life.

On Wednesday the 8th, heaven gained a new angel. My Omi is the reason why I’m so many of the things I have grown to be. She taught me to be unapologetic, fearless, resilient and to spread joy. She will be missed dearly but I know I’ll see her again one day.

Give your loved ones an extra special hug today and never miss an opportunity to say I love you to them. Rest in paradise, our rubber tree. I’ll be seeing you…

Christmas in Easter… So now that I have your ATTENTION, cause why is Santa on my grid in March. Well, it’s so you hopefully see and read this.

Ever wonder who’s behind the “WE” in my emails? Tis me. Jackie.

I’m the CEO, the lead designer, the customer service rep, the social media manager (when the vibe is right), the supply hauler, the event planner, event manager, and—my personal favorite—the person scrubbing the floors after the party is over.

When you support a small business like mine, you aren’t funding a boardroom; you’re supporting a REAL PERSON and a tiny, dedicated crew. Here’s the “behind-the-scenes” reality of keeping the floral magic alive:

• The “Us” is a Solo Act: Most days, I am the entire department. During the peak seasons, I’m lucky to have superstar freelancers who help bring the big dreams to life. Paying them a fair, living wage is a non-negotiable for me—they are the backbone of what I do.

• The Math is Mathing Harder: While the cost of flowers and supplies has jumped 20-30%, I’ve kept my prices steady because I want to spread as much “flower love” as possible. But at the end of the day, a girl’s got to eat and the lights have to stay on!

• The “Sprint” Season: We are seasonal as f**k. We make the bulk of our yearly income in very small windows of time. There are no “off days” when the sun is shining.

So, the next time you’re tempted to ask a small biz for a discount, please remember: we aren’t trying to rip anyone off. We are just trying to stay afloat, keep our teams paid, and keep our communities beautiful.

With that being said! Thank you for choosing to shop small. It truly means the world! HO HO HO

Keeping it real: This Valentine’s Day has been a struggle. 🥀

Between the world being on fire, slower sales and today’s weather forcing us to cancel our event, the “small biz stress” is at an all-time high. I have a studio full of gorgeous, homeless blooms and a plan that didn’t go to plan.

But we pivot. We’re turning our inventory into Grab & Go bouquets at . At this point, we’re just hoping to break even—which means our loss is officially your gain.

This year, we’re ditching the stiff, supermarket stems and the tired clichés. SCRAM!

At Burlap & Twine, we’re celebrating LOVE—the big, messy, world-healing kind.
The world is heavy right now, and frankly, there’s too much BU****IT going on to stick to “business as usual.” We believe LOVE is the most RADICAL thing you can share.

That’s why a portion of EVERY SINGLE SALE will go toward our “Love for the Unsung” initiative—HANDING OUT FREE bouquets to the teachers, nurses, doctors, and veterans who carry us all but rarely get the flowers they deserve.

As the daughter of a man from Peru.
As the granddaughter of a woman who escaped the Holocaust.
As the great-granddaughter of a woman who died when my grandpa just two years old because she was denied the women’s healthcare she deserved.
As the daughter of a mother who had to change her last name growing up to avoid racism because it “sounded too Hispanic.”

I refuse to stay quiet.

I speak up for my son.
For my nephews and nieces.
For our families, our loved ones, and our communities.
