Today these longtime educators at Olsen Park Elementary were awarded custom laser engraved cutting boards made and Engraved by Hoppers Custom Laser Design.

Mrs. Hays is retiring after being the school secretary since 2002.

Mrs Morgan is pursuing opportunities outside of education after being at Olden Park since 2005.

As a former teacher of 33 years in education I am honored that I was asked to make these retirement gifts for them.

I hope they enjoy their gifts for years to come.

About six weeks ago my nephew Michael Ripperger broke his leg skiing out in Utah. After surgery he came back to Amarillo to heal up. Luckily he can work from home. Anyway after sitting around for several weeks he asked if he could go down to the shop and build something. “Of course” I said “sure”. He had designed a headboard he wanted to build. So right before he went back home to San Antonio he and I built this headboard. Michael broken leg and all did the majority of the work.

It just gave Danny Davis my partner at the shop and I an idea to start offering individual woodworking project classes. We have both taught group adult classes before but we’d like to see if there is any interest in individual or small 1-3 person classes to help you build your own family heirloom.

So if you are interested, we have a well equipped shop, and could personalize your class experience.

I have one client just coming out to learn laser engraving. But we could do wood turning or whatever you’d like.

I did these boards for gifts for my neighbor and great friend Sharon Harrington. Since they already been given out as gifts I can now show them. Cutting boards and Charcuterie boards make a great gift that the couple will use their whole married life. I laser engraved these charcuterie boards with their logo for my friend Mark Zimmerman who is the executive director of Transformation Park in Amarillo. They used these for a fundraiser Friday night.

I usually don’t post my wedding gifts until after the wedding. But this beautiful cutting board I’m delivering today in Edmond Ok so I feel it’s pretty safe to post on my page. You’ll notice the juice groove is on the back where you can display on one side and cut on the other.

Ok so today’s question to all my woodworking friends is what’s the dark wood I used? I honestly am not sure. Give me your guess.
