This is definitely a highlight. Maine grown pawpaws from the homestead. I've never eaten one before and that added to the thrill of watching fruit grow this season and anticipation of the harvest. The taste is unlike anything I've eaten and truly tropical. This grafted variety is Pennsylvania Golden from .

A bit on the silviculture of this tree here:
Planted in 2013 in deep sandy loam beneath the light shade of a recently thinned red pine plantation. I am transitioning this stand to mixed nuts trees like black walnut, various chestnuts (American and Chinese) and hazelnuts with mixed fruit like elderberry and pawpaws along the edge. Normally pollinated by flys, I used a paintbrush mixing pollen from a nearby seedling pawpaw and NC-1 variety.

Logging season begins! Always looking to the future, harvests focus on taking the unhealthy trees and leaving the vigorous, best growing to thrive and reproduce. This white pine was selected for harvest due to poor branching structure (making it vulnerable to wind and ice damage) and to give space to nearby maples. Look for tables from this tree in late 2020 and 2021! .

Just as Mr. Ollivander says to Harry Potter "the wand chooses the wizard", I say "the spoon chooses the chef". Each utensil I make has a unique grain, color and shape which means finding the perfect one takes some time and you will know when you find it.

Bathroom reno part 1: What was once a pedistal sink on a 6 foot wall now is a wall to wall walnut counter. Recessed led lights augment natural light from the window. Ample cabinets, drawers, and built in (for daily use items) replace the small inadequate medicine cabinet. Cabinets and built is crafted with sustainably harvested Maine yellow birch.
