The journey was adventurous and educational for me - working with new ideas, materials and weaving techniques with the rattan artisans. Malaysia leads the world in rubber gloves production. With such high output, the presence of defective gloves is inevitable.

As part of an initiative to reduce waste, Aureole Design's Fold light series reimagines defective gloves by transforming them into new applications and design expressions.

"Formed through simple folds of rubber sheets, a variety of colour combinations accentuate its pared-down shape."

You will meet people who have used their incredible creativity to create form, beauty, innovation and change. They have made furniture and cars, designed houses and decorated homes. They have launched training programmes and festivals. They have designed textiles, glass and fashion. They have challenged regimes. Experienced double discrimination. Been questioned. Marginalised. But never discouraged. They have driven a car in Paris with a partner in the back seat, decolonised design, woven, stitched, turned, formed collectives and mentored. They all swam against the tide, finding a vital, rebellious path and creating a better, more beautiful and more interesting life at home.
